Father Releases Dashcam Video of Tragic Hit-and-Run Involving Daughter, Questions Justice

In a troubling occurrence, a 60-year-old father has made public dashcam footage depicting a tragic hit-and-run incident that implicated his daughter in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.

 

The injured party, a 14-year-old girl named "Gai," suffered severe injuries, notably a critical head trauma causing brain bleeding. The concerned father is worried that justice might not be served in this case, reported Siam Rath.

 

The tragic event unfolded on September 10, 2023, as Gai was riding her blue Honda Wave motorcycle near an intersection with a red traffic light, adjacent to a Lotus shopping center in Tha Tako Phanom District.

 

A reckless 60-year-old local resident attempted to speed through the red signal, leading to a catastrophic collision with Gai's motorcycle. The impact was so severe that Gai lost consciousness at the accident site.

Chalermphon Prompinij, a 37-year-old resident residing near Wat Phra That Phanom in Nakhon Phanom, has emerged as an advocate for justice on behalf of his daughter. He has shared the crystal-clear dashcam footage on social media and filed a formal complaint with the local police, providing crucial evidence.

 

Nonetheless, there is currently no clear indication regarding whether the culpable driver will face legal consequences.

 

The local police, under the leadership of Pol. Lt. Col. Tawil Khamkaset, have been diligently investigating the incident, pledging fairness for all parties in accordance with the law.

 

Gai's family continues to be concerned that the responsible driver may evade accountability, underscoring the imperative of upholding road safety regulations to avert such tragic accidents in the future.

Why is it strange. It was probably green for her turning right, and the car comes straight from the right.

She had the green turn arrow, plus it looks like the car was trying to run the yellow light, it turned red and she must of quickly took off without looking.

After they let their 14 year old daughter, which is under the legal age to get any road license, drive a scooter on the roads with no helmet.

2. While in my eyes car at fault, family should also take some blame for letting her ride a scooter on a public highway.

3. When lights turn green, always double check to see if it's clear to go.

She wasn't old enough yet to learn that some drivers treat a red light as a suggestion and not a command. Which is why she should not have been driving in the first place. But, typically Thai, the father blames someone else for his disregard of the law and lack of discipline.

First rule riding on Thai Road's always expect theUnexpected. Just because your in the right doesnt mean other rd users are the same as you. Always give it a few seconds to make a turn from lights you never know a few seconds could save your life. Sadly this young girl has paid the price for no experiance of basic riding skills, No helmet,  presuming she is in the right not realising other rd users might jump a light, lack of basic training and no licence.  Yes the car driver is at fault too so its a 50-50 accident both to blame.

Actually, being in Thailand, she should have looked not just to the right but in both directions!

 

Even though it supposedly carries a 2,500 THB fine I still see many folks driving in the wrong direction.

While I don't condone what the driver did during the accident, the father must take some responsibility for allowing his 14 year old daughter to be out on the road going solo.

Sadly Hotchilli you are correct. How can a person 14 years be experienced on road safety and traffic rules and general care and attention to other road users? Not even old enough to hold a license or take any kind of lessons.

I never assume that just because the light turned green it is safe to proceed.

The only days I don't see red lights being run are the days I stay home all day.

 

That truck driver beside her must have seen the car coming because he didn't budge until after the accident.

The accident and subsequent injuries are 100 % the car drivers fault. Clearly running the red light and slamming into the bike . The girl and her family hold some responsibilities but that is a separate matter. It could have easily been the truck behind the bike getting hit.. The father or mother or both should be criminally cited for neglect by allowing her to drive at that age. The girl l, if she lives should get cited for driving without a permit. The accident would not have happened to the girl if she had not been there. But the way the driver in the car was driving an accident at that intersection was inevitable. So that driver should take 100% blame for it.

The people don't want to. they are way to selfish to do so.

Responsible driver? What about responsible parents? How about their failure to ensure their underage-for-riding-a-bike daughter wasn't riding a motorcycle in a busy location - or anywhere, come to that? How about their responsibility in ensuring she complied with the law re. a proper helmet? The parents should be prosecuted alongside the car driver.

The light controlling the car's direction of travel is not visible in the photo....EDIT: but it is in the video, you're right.

Your not getting it thesetat. Yes, the driver was at fault but she should have looked to see if any vehicles were coming from her right she presumed it was okay because the light went green. I Can also say IF she was wearing a helmet her head injuries may have been less severe but if those 2 little letters ( IF ) were in place.
