On September 17, 2023, at the National Police Headquarters, Assistant Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Thatchai Pitani Labut announced preparations for the arrival of foreign tourists, especially Chinese nationals, reported Siam Rath.

On September 18, at 10:00 AM, a meeting was called to assess the readiness of police officers from the immigration control units to handle the influx of tourists at two immigration offices, specifically to accommodate a large number of Chinese visitors arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport's immigration checkpoints.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thatchai stated that this preparation is in line with the government's tourism policies, focusing on ensuring readiness to welcome foreign tourists, especially those from China, who will be passing through various immigration checkpoints nationwide, notably at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Currently, they are conducting rehearsals to ensure they can handle a substantial surge in tourist arrivals, including Chinese citizens and tourists from other countries.

They plan to assign officers to the 119 immigration channels and believe they can efficiently manage the crowd despite the anticipated congestion.

Additionally, discussions are ongoing with airlines and relevant agencies to increase the number of immigration checkpoints to meet the potential rise in tourist numbers.

wishful thinking/hoping as average Chinese have no money to spare for traveling

If the 'average' chinese person comes here and sees that the condos they have paid for in huge Soi Khoa Noi development only have a jungle ridden lift shaft after 4 years they'll go loopy !

Normally it's 'brace for' not prepare for these kinds of unfortunate events ????

Are they also preparing for covid variants to spike too?

I look forward to Taiwanese tourist arrivals, for some balance.

People in the travel industry are saying that visaless travel for Chinese will have no immediate impact because the number of flights is still restricted and most are already full.  Flights to China and back are still much less than pre-COVID and it takes time for airlines to increase them, as they need to lease new aircraft and hire and train new staff after cutting back to survive.

I'm counting the days.
