A defiant former President Donald Trump sparred with new "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker for more than an hour this week at his Bedminster, New Jersey, estate, battling over his array of legal issues and his role in the Jan. 6 attack, all while continuing to promote falsehoods about the 2020 election.

He also, time and time again, sought to give himself wiggle room on critical issues: abortion, the war in Ukraine, interest rates and even what he thought of his party's efforts to impeach President Joe Biden.

 

In totality, Trump's interview with NBC News highlighted the duality of the candidate who is the overwhelming favorite to win the GOP presidential nomination and challenge the Democrats next fall: On one hand, he is carving out a policy-messaging lane fit for the general election, while on the other, he is as combative as ever about the charges he faces and his role in lessening the trust Americans have not only in their bedrock institutions but in democracy itself.

NBC News has also extended an invitation to Biden to sit down with Welker for an interview.

Looks like the "pointing and screaming at the other guy for being in cognitive decline" tactic ain't working for Team Orange.  As has been said before, every accusation is a confession.

Will be very surprised if a gag order is not imposed by US District Judge Tanya Chutkan after this fiasco interview where Trump was allowed to spew lies and gaslight the American people once again with only meek protest from Kristin Welker. If a gag order proves ineffective, this desperate, dangerous, and deranged despot needs to be jailed pending trial.

In the Meghan Kelly interview with DT she was somewhat lecturing at one point that a subpoena is not something to ignore, he went off on a rant and said, in one breath: "I know this.  I don't know that!"  Waiting for him to say something about his study of Zen for an explanation.  These blabberings usually span from a few hours to a few days, this is his record for fastest reversal

The usual tactics: initial response deny it happened at all "It's a hoax!  It didn't happen! Fake News!";

Next day: justify it "Everyone is saying she deserved it:"

I watched the interview and guess what?

Trump really painted himself into a corner!

He basically admitted now it was all his decision and he was not influenced by his lawyers as far as the decision to fight the election outcome.

This could be used in court against him.

Every time he opens his mouth he is digging his own hole a little deeper.

I suggest the top moment from the OP was when Welker presses Trump on what he did during the hours he watched the January 6th Insurrection from his dining room TV.

 

His responses were:

 

'I’m not going to tell you. I’ll tell people later at an appropriate time,

Why would I tell you that?

I’m not going to tell you anything'.
 

 The exchange highlights the one event from the January 6th Insurrection that Trump has never provided excuses answers.

 

His response is ominous by the omission of any explanation of why he didn't stop the violence, perhaps this will be his Achilles heel in his downfall.

 

I am sure that WH Chief-of-Staff Mark Meadows and other aides will be eager to enlighten Jack Smith on the events of that day when they accept plea deals.

There were enough evidence that Trump sat at his dinning table and watched the attack on TV from videotaped testimonies by White House aides and security staff discussing the events of the day. He not only watched the attacks, he also replayed parts that he like especially when his name was chanted by the mob. There are also audio tapes of his senior staff, close advisers and family members begging him to do something. All these evidences were on full display at the 8th hearing by the Select Committee. Mark's testimony will be icing on the cake.
