What a bass line...........to be singing lead vocals to.

Four different melody line going towards the end. Who was the girl on backing vocals?

I don't know. I give up. Linda McCartney?

My main point is being lost here.

And that is that most of these love songs are "fantasy land", much like science-fiction, Star Trek, Star Wars.

It's not grounded in reality.

Beware of cognitive dissonance.

Pretty soon you will end up like Gamma believing olive oil contains amino acids.

why do you even need "to rock"?

and why is steven tyler screeching like a bat out of hell in this song at 4:14?

someone please get me an acoustic guitar or a harp to sooth my jangled nerves from this noise.

Quote 'why do you even need "to rock"?'

The point is, that song illustrates that whatever kind of music you might prefer, Aerosmith are a group of skilled musicians.

Give a listen to the band on "Big Ten Inch", a lot of bands could not (cannot) play like that.

You don't like Aerosmith, ok, but they can play.

No, it isn't.

You are a professor of the obvious.

Everyone knows that we are unrealistic about romantic love.

"So what", is what you don't get.

oh, you just reminded me of this one.

at one point in the video I linked, he is singing "dream until your balls turn blue".

I don't need crazy lyrics and I don't need music that is trying to jolt me into debauchery.

If that's what you need, go for it.

We?

Some are unrealistic. You can be a realist and a romantic. The unrealistic struggle. True love is sustainable. The unrealistic ones don’t recognise it and therefore cannot sustain it.

No sorry Froggy, YOU have lost the main point here, it is about Love Songs, read the headline.

Yes it was Linda Macca on BVs.

Was Onward Christian Soldiers grounded in reality.?

As long as they are grounded in what they perceive as ‘love’, what’s the problem?

Sorry, I don't know what Onward Christian Soldiers is. should I ask ChatGPT?

most love songs are not representative at all about real love and relationships.

maybe some are.

most are an idealized courtship, which lasts 2 weeks at most.

They are causing problems by creating fantasies and false illusions of what a relationship is.

I'll tell you a story. My nephew's girlfriend went to see Harry Styles in concert and had to pay 500$ or some exorbitant price to sit in the front row. But this seems like it's going beyond just appreciating the artist ... looks to me like she is fantasizing about a romantic relationship with Harry Styles. And of course the more "romantic" a guy is, the more women he has. Harry Styles probably had a million girls. That's what "The Romantics" in Medieval Europe originally were .... a bunch of guys who came up with clever ways to woo other people's wives.

Is it a coincidence that there is a divorce thread on here at the same time as a love song thread? What we have is excessive fantasyland romance in songs and movies AND excessive divorce rates.

If you really want to get laid with loads and loads of women, write love songs. And if you're not good at writing love songs, become a divorce lawyer.

most people don't pay attention to song lyrics.

half of Zeppelin songs mention something about "leaving their woman".

it's better than beating your woman, I guess?

Sorry, got sidetracked when the guy said Aerosmith sucked, I am not a fan of the group, have never owned one of their albums.

But they are a skilled band that can play, so I defended them.

But you're right I got sidetracked.

This is a fun discussion, thanks for starting it.

Let me try again with songs from the soul and R&B genre:

"If you don't know me by now", by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes

"Oh Girl" by the Chilites

"Baby I need your lovin'" by The Four Tops

but most people are not grounded in what they perceive as 'love'.

also, why do people get so nervous when someone has a different preference in music and thinks their band sucks?

there's some messed up psychology behind that.

That might work in person as a bit of harmless banter, but keep in mind when people post their songs here, they may be linked to something personal. Not polite to dismiss someone’s personal experience as if it were nothing. So just accept what someone posts here whether you like it or not. Otherwise it will simply discourage people from opening their hearts at all.
It’s not a competition.
