I didn't complain that people (incl. Thai people; that's why I did put 'Thai' in parentheses) can be annoying. I just stated it. Also, if you read my post carefully, I mentioned an annoying compatriot too, but, yes, naturally, most annoying people I meet in Thailand are Thais...

Okay got it ,you stated a complaint ,your complaint being Thai people are annoying.     My bad

Yes, move to Hawaii. Where the people are friendlier and everything is 15 times more expensive.   And take Celsius with you. And then he can change his name to Fahrenheit.

I just had a very disappointing experience with a compatriot today, making me wonder whether there's something bad in the water here...   No, seriously, (Thai) people are very annoying, but

I'm finding them annoying and just not enjoyable to interact with.

Almost all complaints about Thais and Thailand boomerang and actually apply to the poster himself. After a complaint about Thai stupidity is analyzed, it's discovered that the poster is stupid. That is, in this case, it is merely you who are annoying, even to yourself, and just not enjoyable to interact with. I don't find Thais annoying and I find it enjoyable to interact with them. That's one of the big reasons I live in Thailand.

Even in tourist-shocked Pattaya, I can simply speak some Thai, smile, show good manners, and then, having distinguished myself from the idiots, I get friendly responses and service even from all those tough vendors.

More than 31000 girls and women were raped in Thailand last year and about 60% of them were university students and school pupils

I'm curious as to where that number came from. It seems very high, almost as if it had been massaged by an NGO whose budget approval was due.

Did 85 Thai women per day, every day, for a year, march into police stations or a Dean's office to report that they had been raped?  Few women would put themselves through the degradation knowing that their assailant will face zero consequences.

I think you might want to research that a bit. Most everything I post are stats and facts about what goes on here, as well as personal observations and observations by other posters who mirror mine, which only help to show they are what really goes on here. Stats aren't to be disputed. Even those that are really against the locals here have still said some things positive about the country. Every place has it's share of problems, and it starts at the top. The average IQ here is 88, which doesn't say they are stupid but less intelligent than many other countries. The school system is shoddy, and it's partly to blame. About 40% of Thais are farmers, who aren't seeking higher levels of education. This again doesn't make them stupid but again, less intelligent because although they know a lot about certain kinds of farming, that's about where most of it ends. People stop learning when they stop reading, or are being taught by teachers. I've seen some pretty dumb replies on this forum, but for the most part, even if they are prejudiced, racist or narcissists, they still seem bright. What is annoying is people who don't bother to research and use their own either brown noser or prejudiced opinions to make replies.

That's a stat I found, which yes means this number is probably very low as far as actual rapes taking places, because many do not go to the police. Stats come from the police offices and hospitals.

True

I don't make opinions. Opinions are not always right. From a psychologist................The truth is that a fact is a statement that can be supported to be true or false by data or evidence. In contrast, an opinion is a personal expression of a person’s feelings or thoughts that may or may not be based in data. Indeed, many of our opinions are based on emotions, personal history, and values—all of which can be completely unsupported by meaningful evidence.

not sure I would call it stupidity ...

some people just have the capacity to enjoy life more than others.

if you put 2 people in the same situation, one will enjoy themselves more

it has nothing to do with thailand

I don't bs. You on the other hand, find it in yourself to dispute just for the sake of disputing, meaning trolling. An answer with nothing besides a word or three shows this.

In medical terms it is called paranoia

You have to specify what is bs to you. Some things people say are from personal observation, which makes them valid, but they aren't supported by other things which are called stats or facts.

I don't seem to have too many problems with Thais, possibly because I speak the language reasonably well.

I do tend to keep to myself, mainly because Thai entertainment and socialising is hard on my eardrums.

I certainly like sitting in a shopping mall, and watching slim leggy Thai girls walk past.

On balance, I would say I have had more problems with foreigners than Thais.

You have a computer, look them up. Disputing things because you aren't aware of the truth doesn't help your cause. Again, a few word answer is called trolling.

Like I said, instead of just putting in a word or two to dispute something, be specific on what you're disputing.

I understand how Jim feels.  I have been in CNX for 7 years and was a frequent visitor for almost 20 years.  I have discovered I can only relate to Thai people who have traveled outside of Thailand and I relate even better with those who have actually lived in another country. So far I have only encountered only 5 people who have actually lived in another country.  One of them is my dentist(he went to UCLA) and another was a Grab Driver who also went to UCLA for a year.

Most Thai people that i have encountered have very limited understanding of the world and people from other countries and cultures.  Most disappointing aspect has been the fact that most are not interested in learning about other countries or cultures.  Obviously the most asked questions I have gotten is “Where you come from?”.  I reply “United States” and they go silent.  I no longer reach out to Thai people to make a connection. I just peacefully and carefully carry out whatever business I need to get done.

i think it is very hard for a farang to conversate with them in Thai. The accents and intonations are so difficult for farangs to replicate
