When this website was down for a week did you cope?

Featured Replies

Personally it didnt bother me at all when aseannow was down for a week. I probably only checked every few days.

For the likes of some members who seem to be on here all day everyday (prior to the upgrade) I think they might have had withdrawal symptoms. For example esteemed member Bob smith must have been crying on his pillow everynight.

Anyone know what happened exactly? Why down for so long?

How did you cope?

Haven't seen Bob around, not that I miss him though.

You think he toppled himself during that week?

There is hope. ;)

I considered the possibility that the forum was closed forever. Like website sold and the new owner has something else in mind.

Over the years I bookmarked a couple of threads in this forum for future reference. Good ideas about this and that, sometime replies to questions I asked, sometimes other things.

I was a little concerned that all that information might be gone - if the site would be closed. That would be sad - like 10 years internet history deleted (ok, not exactly, but similar to that).

Nah, he's moved to creaky floor, and still posting stuff about white drunks making his area look untidy.

I think Bob should be nominated as a moderator. He is on this site all day. If I owned this website I would nominate him for the job for sure. Free labour.

Likely no accident it went down for so long; afaik not happened in the history of TV. Sponsors aside, good chance they passively sent the serial posters (Bob et al) on their way by not being available. These guys—many of whom post contentious stuff on Thailand and Thais—are actually a detriment to the site. Having said that, it is as slow as F now. They might want to consider better hosting. It’s not rocket science guys, even a massive database with fkt up code would do well on good servers. MDDHOSTING in the US will have it at lightning speed. Not affiliated, just have my own site with them. 😋

Opportunity missed.

I missed it and tried to reboot the AN page frequently during the downtime I admit.

I did have a return to “ Tiger “ but the variety of content just isn’t there ( decent content I mean not the trivial drivel we have seen here recently ).

Also paid a trip to the “ Door “ but that place isn’t for me and from what I see is only for a handful of posters dedicated to appear more radical than the others by dissing any noobies, visit at your peril.

AN gets constantly slagged for various reasons but we all return,

secretly enjoy the experience and spend far more time on here than we like to admit.

Im wondering if they knew in advance months ago about their IT issues and thats the reason they said they wanted to sell a month or 2 ago. I remember seeing the ad for that.

I read somewhere else that it might have been a DDOS attack on the website.

Forum is worthless if not online. Ad revenue is only income.
