From time to time people post lines that invite a derogatory yet humorous response (subject to opinion) and it is unreasonable to expect people to stifle that response like an unwanted kitten.  
When people reply to your posts, they are relying to what you have written , not who you are.

I find it interesting how many people get upset about some replies.

Or maybe there are not so many people who get upset but the upset people talk a lot about that. He stalked me! Ban him! Yeah...

I can only recall two unpleasant experiences on this forum - one a misunderstanding by a member whom I now consider a casual acquaintance through common contacts, at the time a  stranger, who took offence at a comment of mine which may have been misexpressed on my part, or may have reflected a different world view; the second, an obnoxious threat in response to my comment that I mis-remembered and mis-attributed to another member, against whom I bore a grudge for some years, until I dug back into the records and found the other member entirely innocent.  Still a buffoon, but that is in his nature, and by no means the lesser a companion for it.  I can’t remember who it was that actually offered the threat of violence, so since that day I’ve been checking everyone that comes into Sids “All right, if you’re up for it let’s go”. It’s a much quieter pub than it used to be.

It's hard to express yourself on a keyboard on a phone without being misinterpreted. I just give it my best, and if I'm misunderstood I don't care.

It's more of a problem with friends and family than on a forum. I've been misunderstood thousands of times.

The other thing is, do you answer to anyone on a forum? Especially someone you wouldn't even cast a glance in real life.

It's not the mouth it comes out of, it's the mind it goes into.

 

With no tone, no expression, body language etc then 90% of the communication is lost, leaving some with just a 10% puzzle that some take totally the wrong way.

It’s just text. Those that get upset when they read a post on a forum and respond with angst, I suppose they also do the same when they read books and magazines with a pen and pencil in responses written in the hard copies.

Relying on what people write to know anything about the writer seems most unreliable in most cases.

I am pretty much the person I write, but if I said the things I really think I'd have been banned years ago.

I do try and not respond to those that attack me ( happens far too frequently ) in a similar way and the mods must have been sick of my reporting the attackers all the time, so in the end I just put the personal attackers on ignore, which makes for a far more pleasant posting experience.

I find that people get upset by what I say because they don't read my post properly, or read something into it that I didn't mean. Sometimes they just want to attack me for personal reasons, but the ignore function is great for them.

   From this side of it , people read your posts and think that you are wrong about certain things and reply telling you so and you also have an appalling attitude towards Females , almost like a rapists attitude towards females 

Things posted on most social media are anonymous.

Many people will post things there but they would never say them to the person directly.

As my mum taught me - if you cannot say something good about someone, then say nothing.

I try very hard to follow that - but it is difficult sometimes.

If it's funny, then all gloves are off.

 

If it's nasty-funny or dirty-funny, then that goes double.

I won't post the stuff that I hold back on for the reason that people I don't want knowing about me are reading everything we all write, or more likely being read by an AI and anything untoward is reported to a human I don't want knowing about my innermost thoughts. The internet does not end outside AN.

 

I think many people do not realise that everything ever put on the internet is analysed by some dirty great computers somewhere in the world. Our only defense is to not put stuff on the internet in the first place. Just another reason I despise what the human world has become. 1984 didn't get even half of the bad stuff we have now, and social media is a gift to the spotty boys lurking out there.
