Neighbour Held For Beating Italian Man To Death In Front Of His House

In many villages you pay a monthly fee, part of which goes to pay for garbage collection. In the "village" (housing development) I'm in, there are signs posted that if you don't pay the fee, your garbage won't get collected and on the days the garbage truck comes, the security guy escorts it around to make sure they skip any homes that haven't paid their fees.

So the Italian guy was probably dumping his garbage in his neighbour's bin, which probably didn't smell any worse than it normally would have but was an excuse for a confrontation.

And supposedly the Thai man's son was in jail after a previous altercation - about the Italian man disposing of his garbage in front of his neighbour's house.
The Thai man said it was he who had punched the Italian but in court the Italian had produced a "drunken witness" that pointed at his son as the assailant and that is why the son was in jail.

You'd have to be really, really broke to not be able to pay your water bill. Sheesh, mine is rarely more than 75 baht a month and I use a fair amount of water everyday !

But I guess for some people, 75 baht a month would mean going without a couple beer and what the heck, it'll rain sooner or later and fill up the buckets !

This has to be the real reason. It was a revenge killing and he made up the phony excuse of garbage disputes. 

 

First off it's hard to believe an Italian person would just leave trash outside until the smell was so bad it let to legal disputes. It's also hard to believe this would cause a Thai person so much distress since there's often trash floating around the sides of the streets and stinking food waste in markets etc...

 

What's not hard to believe is a Thai person taking revenge and not accepting responsibility for their family members bad behavior. What did his son do I wonder? That may be the most important part of the story.

It's not just a Thai thing... people lash out all over the world when faced with situations that they cannot remedy any other way.  It is a matter of building community standards and many communities have failed to develop any standards at all... Because of the Buddhist influence Thais believe that they have no way to "confront" others for disrespectful behavior and believe it is bad to do so... the mothers don't even discipline their screaming children which furthers the future bad behavior.

You should see the overflowing disgusting trash bins at my wife's place of work. They even let stray dogs <deleted> near the bins because that's a problem not worth fixing either I guess. These are Thailands most educated professional people and a massive company which employees hundreds of people nationwide.

 

I can not get them to care enough to fix the mess. They just don't care. Living with trash and dog <deleted> is a way of life in Thailand I guess. I seriously doubt that neighbor was upset with garbage of all things.

So would I, but would you kill him? What was the story behind the Italian's actions?  probably a tit for tat situation that got out of hand but you're right, don't annoy the neighbours, you'll lose in the end.

They basically say it was a revenge killing but it's all in Thai so I may have missed something. They said last time the father spoke to his son in prison he was suffering greatly and he couldn't handle it anymore and that's when he went after the Italian.

 

This story has too many holes to make sense of. They said the Italian called the cops on his son because the son was harassing him or attacking him (something like that anyways) but it wasn't his fault. Oh really? What did his son do exactly? The police seem to think he deserved to be in jail.

 

Btw, they said the Italian lost trash pickup services and he was putting his trash in black bags and stacking them outside, hence the smell. Annoying and bad behavior for sure. If he had money to eat he could pay for some trash pickup.

This seems to me likely that it is more about the son being in jail. A thing you see often here, of a Thai getting really, really, pee'd off at the person that catches them doing something wrong, not about the fact they were doing something wrong in the first place

You can be killed over absolutely anything in Thailand. The Thais seem to have no moderation in their behaviour. Everything is done to the max, be it loud music, speeding, violence. Everything is black and white as they have never been taught or been able to think or talk things through. Add in low education, and the inability to reason leads to violence. Anywhere. It is the only way they know to express themselves. I'm sure though that is isn't limited to Thailand. We only read of such cases here because that's where we are. Much of the world is poor and uneducated. The human race really hasn't advanced very far.

There's more to this than meets the eye - the Thai's son wasn't sent to prison for nothing.

 

Even if he was disposing of the rubbish outside the Thai guy's house - that is no excuse for murder, as I suspect, the Thai man will shortly find out.
