The Big C Extra on Central Pattaya Rd. needs to be gutted. As soon as you walk in , there is a very strong sewerage odor. Tukcom is a shell of itself from ten years ago. A lot of commercial space , almost empty now . 2 top floors closed . Soi 7 had the Pig and Whistle , my favorite spot for Sunday Roast. Gone now. Also gone on Soi 7 The Tequila Reef. Probably the best spot to enjoy Mexican cuisine while watching NFL Football. My last stop before heading back to the bus station was the Harbor Mall. Horrid. They close at 6PM. Maybe Anunkin can get them to stay open till 9.... Laaaaaalllll.
Popular Post OneMoreFarang
Pattaya is a "good place" in many ways. But it also has some problems. Overcharging motorcycle taxis. Aggressive ladyboys. (last time I was there) lots of Russian salespeople on the streets. In general: Many Thais like to overcharge farangs. Sometimes we can avoid that but often it's just a hassle. I live in Bangkok and I visited Pattaya many times - but not so often in the last years. What I like in Bangkok is that there are lots of "normal people". Pattaya seems to be full of people who only drink all day and night, and of course annoying tourists. 1 1 1 1

Also, it's not that big. I was pretty much eating at the same places down there as well. Taking a taxi out of the area to eat every day is not an option either 🤣, so don't bother. Though you've eaten at a place already, you could eat at it again. Moreover, you can order a few dishes here and there for takeout and eat them later, even within the next couple of days. Yeah, keep 'em in your fridge. And you can order from the several online food services. When I first came to Pattaya, I bought a hot plate and cooked on that for a year or so. I rarely eat out, 'cause as you've noted it tends to be less healthy for you. 3 hours ago, JimTripper said: Your suggestions suck. Pattaya seems to be full of people who only drink all day and night, and of course annoying tourists. Now here you've made a point. Pattaya is after all a tourist resort. The tourists lend a sense of excitement (not to mention craziness) and create its dynamism. Always change, construction, and renovation. The "normal people" are rather behind the scenes and in the quieter areas, which as a tourist yourself you may not have got to. I rather miss the static, stable sense of older Bangkok neighborhoods, too--but not enough to move there unless I had some compelling reason. Pattaya's advantages far outweigh its negatives. :)
Popular Post Georgealbert
Pattaya does have a lot more to offer than the bar/girl/etc scene. The problem is that a vast majority of visitors to Pattaya go for those reasons, nothing wrong with that, but many then believe the whole of the Pattaya area, and the rest of Thailand is the same. As many have said, get away from the central area and you find a very diverse and normal way of life. I would describe the greater Pattaya area, as in the map below, and wonder how many have explored all these areas. 2 3

Walking anywhere, uneven trip hazard, blocked footpaths, dodging traffic as you step on the road. Living somewhere is a lot different from being on holiday one month a year. I actually live by the Harbor Mall and like it because it's almost always deserted, but still has a sundae shop and a coffee shop. It's great for relaxing or working. Also, comfy chairs and desk to work on a laptop that are always available. Upstairs has places that sell used computer parts. Low key, interesting with no hassle or hard sales pitches. Many people, Thai's especially, don't like places that are quiet and empty. They seem to draw energy from noise and having other people hustling around. People like very different things. It's interesting that almost everybody avoids that place like the plague, but I find it an oasis. I think there's a lesson there for me somewhere about living in Pattaya around crowds and noise. Girls/women are 200% better too. I agree with your agreement. I don't like to gamble, but I def enjoyed the Neon sizzle of downtown Vegas. I'm not much of a boozer, but feel free to turn me loose in the New Orleans French Quarter any time. I'm not a monger, but to hang out in a bar on the back road with old perverts enjoying what may be the best days of their lives -is up there with the best of it. Whether you partake or not, Pattaya offers old-style sin in a uniquely safe setting. Long may it run. Golf courses and The Temple of Awareness are great things too. My personal Pattaya love story is about when I got dysentary in Myanmar and went there to convalesce. Some nowhere motel behind Diana Inn. I found community and support. There's a famous chicken and rice place nearby that kept me alive. I'll bet it's still there. That big shopping center across the road had a guy selling old Buddha's and amulets on the top floor (this is an old story). From talking and buying from him, I developed a 25+ year interest in Thai art and antiques. Women in bars would tell me about their their bar front shrines. Devout Thai people with good English and a willingness to talk about their stuff is rare, but not in Pattaya. Tourist police: "What are you doing with that girl?". Me: "Uh, Anthropology?". 4

Must have really distracted you from your tours of the temples and second hand bookshops! 1 1

GypsyT
Don't know... but in the US they make anything! For $$. I only eat real Italian pizza and they have very few ingredients; "But we must always remember the origins; Italian pizza is a dish born from the union of 4 simple ingredients for the dough (flour, water, salt and yeast) and enriched with equally simple toppings." 1
