Popular Post xylophone Posted April 21, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 21, 2024 Somebody mentioned the 1984 BBC series, Edge of Darkness, so I managed to find it on Pirate Bays and download it. Have watched the first 2 episodes and thought them very good. The guy who plays Craven in the above has that certain something about him, which is intiguing (and great acting) therefore will be keen to see the remaing episodes I have downloaded. I have seen the Mel Gibson movie of the same name and thought that was good also. 2 1

Mutt Daeng Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I've just finished watching season 1 of Wisting and it was very good IMHO. I'm just about to start seasons 2-3. It was recommended by @recom273. It's a Norwegian crime drama. Worth a look IMHO. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7875794/ 1

Popular Post Will27 Posted April 24, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2024 Secrets of the Octopus. Thought this was terrific. Octopuses are like aliens on Earth: three hearts, blue blood and the ability to squeeze through a space the size of their eyeballs. But there is so much more to these weird and wonderful animals. Intelligent enough to use tools or transform their bodies to mimic other animals and even communicate with different species, the secrets of the octopus are more extraordinary than we ever imagined. 2 2

Yellowtail Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Saw "Civil War" today, pretty disappointing. 3/10 Civil War (2024) - IMDb Also saw the Japanese tear-jerker "April Come She Will" that I thought was pretty good, 8/10 Shigatsu ni nareba kanojo wa (2024) - IMDb 1
Popular Post dhupverg Posted April 25, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 25, 2024 I'm sure it's been mentioned, but I'll mention it again. Shogun is well worth watching and currently at a 9.0 on imdb. I read the book a few times over the years as well as James Clavelle's other novels and I found this series to be highly entertaining and very well done. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2788316/?ref_=ttep_ov 1 2 1
Yellowtail Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Saw "The Fall Guy", action/comedy today and was very pleasantly surprised. Decent story, good acting, great cinematography and soundtrack, nice stunts and whatnot. 8.5/10 The Fall Guy (2024) - IMDb 1
Yellowtail Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Saw "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" today and it was pretty good for what it was. Pretty epic visually, but I did not care much for the lead actors. It could have been shorter. 6/10 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) - IMDb

The 1980 original, however, is better. First, in the role of Mariko, the stunningly beautiful Yoko Shimada with the anime eyes is so much better than squint-eyed robo-cheeks Anna Sawai. And it's so much more enjoyable to watch Richard Chamberlain, a real actor, master his role, instead of the grunts coming out of Cosmo Jarvis. The original Shogun, too, was shot in Japan. The photography makes use of high contrast color, instead of the low contrast grayscaling in the new Shogun, where every day in Japan is made to look cloudy or rainy just like Canada where it was shot. I'll not go into storytelling other than to note that the TV and filmmakers of 40-50 years ago realized that every scene, shot, and line had one purpose--advance the plot--instead of quizzically drawn out shots that wallow around for no purpose.
