All Entertainment Venues Prohibited From Making Very Loud Noise

ALL ENTERTAINMENT VENUES nationwide are warned to never make very loud noise which might otherwise disturb their neighbourhood or else they could probably be shut down by law, according to Sutthipong Chulcharoen, undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior.

 

Operators of all entertainment spots throughout the country are officially cautioned to never play music so loud and boisterous that it may ruin public peace in their neighbourhood otherwise they could probably be ordered by the authorities to close for as long as five years, Sutthipong said today (Jan.8).

 

Operating licences for any entertainment places, including those legally allowed to open until 4 a.m. in Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui Island and Phuket, could probably be revoked by law if those venues fail to comply with the Ministry of Interior’s regulations pertaining to events of loud noise.

I'll let the "restaurant" up the road read this so that at 02:00 they might turn the amp down so that resident in a 2 kilometre radius can get some sleep.

Or the Karaoke bar opposite that still has drunk Myanmar workers singing out of tune at 05:00 ...

There's a massive money making opportunity here. Sell those headphones which allow you to hear the music but no-one else can. I've long thought it was funny to imagine dancers flapping around in silence, and now it's become a reality. Apparently it's popular on cruise ships with an atrium. Doesn't disturb those in inside cabins.

Specific nice level , and zoning regulations have to be established first, Then the will and resources to enforce such zoning and noise regulations, 

At 66 years of age , certainly not something the would happen in my lifetime.

Not only entertainment venues, but also fairs, temples, parties in open air, shows, concerts... implement a maximum of DB and check it... and if it is too  much fine them and and by repeating offence confiscate the speakers.

Is there ANY place in Asia that does NOT bust noise levels? Historically, Asia is noisy.

But Thailand seems to lead the pack, for unless two people conversing are sitting side by side with elbows touching, there seems to be a requirement to shout to each other at max volume when conversing.

Would karaoke bars be any different just because of a new law?

I've been to clubs, not here, that do this.

Without the headphones all you hear are sneaky farts and people asking to get a drink.

This country may be the loudest in the world.  How about walking into a shop or mall.  Or even outside, gigantic loud speakers big mouths advertising yelling some garbage.  I think they truly believe the louder they can talk, the more chance you will buy something.  Insanity.

This edict makes about as much sense as Anutin's (initial, uninformed, quickly walked-back) claim that while bars could stay open until 04:00, they couldn't serve any alcohol 02:00 - 04:00, and patrons could simply enjoy 'tea'.

This subject Loud Noise is a serious problem and appears to be getting worse!  On top of the night time entertainment joints, there are restaurants, the MRT loudspeakers while waiting a train, the advertisement that run on some MRT trains.  Add to the unwanted noise, the types of noise and 'music' that plays is jarring, never smooth or synchronous with surroundings.    In restaurants I am not spending 1000 to 3000 thb for a meal while suffering the crap, loud, banging, whinging noises over their sound system.

And now in parallel, in public spaces including mass transit, advertising is now huge panels, everywhere you go, gaudy, horrible, brightly lit,  pushing products and services.  The absolute antithesis of what Thailand is supposed to be.     And add to that the main streets/roads of Bangkok are jammed with cars  - more a parking lot than a throughway.  And the public transit systems are jammed with riders - MRT and BTS.       All together it's effing awful getting around Bangkok.     Oh, not to forget the pedestrians on the streets, blocking sidewalks, no sense of direction or respect for other people.   To say nothing of the shameful appearance of 90% of the falangs   If there was a contest for ugly awful looking people, poorly dressed and oeverwegiht there would be many winners to claim the title.   And, if you don't have a gold earring and a parrot on your shoulder - do not show up in public with tattoos!

Noise pollution is only second to the 2.5PM pollution. Both are disgusting.
