Chinese tourists search for new experiences in Thailand

Featured Replies

So instead of being de facto restricted to a limited number of touristic attractions, shops and restaurants, they will be everywhere! Is it good news?

  • Best way to have an authentic experience is to learn some manners outside of mainland China and practice them.  Japanese did it back in the 80's, I think that China would benefit greatly from this.

  • An exciting day trip in one of the numerous Pattaya submarines should fit the bill, lol.

Instead, they’re craving high-quality tours tailored for the young, families, luxury enthusiasts, and those yearning for an authentic local experience.

“Chinese tourists were also focusing on in-depth tours to experience Thai life firsthand instead of just sightseeing.”

This paradigm shift is driven by the young generation’s hunger for unique experiences.

Chinese tourists demand villas with ample bedrooms for their entourage and Instagram-worthy hotels that scream selfie  central.

What TAT needs to do is build an authentic "prop site" similar to a Hollywood movie set with a temple, poor village, water park and high-rise buildings with over priced clubs, restaurants and baht buses (similar to "Westworld" the movie).

Bring them in through the cosplay uniform shop where they can dress up like students, teachers, police, etc. and encourage them to do strip-teases on the baht buses en-route to whatever fantasy they've selected.

Hire locals instead of using androids to feign outrage over their behavior, drive the baht buses, play music in the clubs, act as villagers, etc.

Lots of decrepit areas around BKK that could use a facelift and might even get a few non-Chinese as a side bonus. :wai:

Cannabis legalisation, 4am opening times and cheaper wine won't woo the Chinese either.

It was a huge pivot to the West by Anutin et al. so no wonder the Chinese aren't enamoured. This pivot to appease the Western visitors I also never see discussed here.

Why do we have a day by day account on Chinese tourists ?

They're back (unfortunately). Those who said they wouldn't return were talking nonsense. It's just been a bit slower than other countries. There is over a billion Chinese people. The well of Chinese head to Europe and Americas. The bottom of the barrel head to Thailand.

It's mass tourism that will ruin cities like Bangkok and some great beach resorts. But well this current lot want that.

We don't need a day by day coverage on chinese tourists.

They're back.

New experience, what, like democracy maybe?

drop in china tourist , first to blame the desastrous property crisis in china, who wipped out the lower middleclass what was just arrising..thats it

and than many other reason ,but main reason internal economic problems in china, and the richs they have other preferd destinations

Good for the Chinese wanting to go in smaller groups or independently. The faces in the photo seem to indicate that maybe those big group fests just aren't worth the savings. I've met many Chinese and never had any sort of problem with them, less than with the drunk westerners here. Lived in Thailand last 20 years or so either Bangkok or Jomtien, but do avoid tourist spots if I can. If I may hazard a guess, it would be that the sorts of people attracted to large cheap group tours are similar regardless of cultural background: lack basic manners, pig out at buffets, etc that are so complained about
