I find it interesting that the left wing, socialist, globalist Labour Party members want to damage the sovereignty of their nation. Its as if they are on a death wish.

It's an extension of self loathing, a trait that has long been associated with pearl clutching, hand wringing leftists

I didn't mean to hit the nerve quite that hard, Jonny. Sorry about that.

Whilst I appreciate the apology, it is somewhat misdirected on this occasion.

Had you apologized for the poor quality of your 'banter' then I would accept it, but claiming to have 'hit a nerve' with some lame strawman is wishful thinking on your part Raymond.

Maybe you should go back to calling everyone a racist, at least that was mildly effective at irritating people...:coffee1:

You want to make it illegal to sell rubber boats etc to them? That kind of measure is always so effective.

Not a bad idea.

Issuing blowguns and darts to the RNLI might be another option.

France's borders total nearly 4,000km. There are natural barriers in places e.g. the Alps but nevertheless, imo it would be all but impossible for France to reinforce their borders to the extent that  illegal migration is eliminated. Even if this were somehow possible, there would also be a huge opportunity cost in diverting resources to do so. It is a similar story throughout the rest of Europe.

Imo the problem needs to be tackled at source i.e. implementing measures where the illegal migrants originate from. However, I have no idea what these measures might look like.

I think it reasonable to assume Palestinians will start appearing at UK borders in the months to come.

The Governments response to that will be interesting.

Sunak and the Tories are once again setting the very trap they will later step into.

Could arrange direct flights from Gaza to Rwanda ?

Take the middle man out the equation .

Why do you think there will be some Palestinian arrivals in the coming months and not the past months ?

   Scare tactics ?

Factually incorrect as usual, John Boy.

I do not label everyone a racist. I also accept that there are many Brexiters who are neither racist or xenophobic. Nevertheless, I also believe that there are some Brexiters who are racist and/or xenophobic.

Isnt that point so obvious, that it doesn't need stating ?

Good advice. I don't see that particular poster as he made too many personal insults against me, but I see his posts when he is quoted. I particularly enjoyed his "out of touch racist, terrorist supporting serial poster" insult, but if I were to be called that myself I'd be putting a poster that resorts to such abusive language on ignore.

I sometimes read his posts but I don't answer them as after my last answer in response to his post, he accused me of both lecturing him and trolling him. By not responding to his posts I have lost nothing.

Here you go

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9871467/Britain-spends-500-000-year-storing-boats-used-migrants-cross-Channel.html

Britain spends £500,000 a year to keep Channel migrants' boats piled up in a car park in case the 'owner' comes forward to claim them - and now plans to build a £2MILLION processing facility in Dover

....................................

According to The Times, many of the boats are disposed of after the 12 months because they are no longer seaworthy or cannot be used for another purpose.

Thank you for that information. Perhaps it would be an idea to only keep them for 3 months before auctioning them off or sub contract it out to a scrap dealer and let him do as he wishes with the boats.

If somebody comes along to claim a boat, send them down to make a full report at the central police station.

Thank you for your prompt and polite response.

Polite and informative answers seem to be harder to find on the forum in the last few years.

If it isn't France directly then it is most likely an EU problem. All they will do is talk it to death over about 20 years.

There’s nothing in the news that might suggest it reasonable to expect Palestinians from Gaza to start showing up at UK borders seeking asylum/sanctuary?

Are you asking him that question ?

He asked you that question and I also asked you that question .

Do you know of any reason as to why Palestinians may seek asylum in the U.K in a few months time ?

If you know of a reason , then please tell us as well

He didn’t ask me a question.

I didn’t say “Palestinians may seek Asylum in the UK”

My precise words were: “I think it reasonable to assume Palestinians will start appearing at UK borders in the months to come.”

There’s a subtle but important difference.

Because Palestinians are being killed in huge numbers in Gaza.

It’s not unreasonable to assume that many will seek refuge/asylum/sanctuary elsewhere and equally not unreasonable to assume many have existing connections to the UK.

Just like people from other war torn areas of the world show up at the UK’s borders seeking refuge/asylum/sanctuary.

Its a thing.

Why haven't they been coming to the UK already then ?

What is going to change in a few months time that will make them come to the U.K ?

I dud not say they haven’t been coming to the UK already, which begs the question why are you asking me about something I’ve not made a comment on?

”What is going to change in a few months time that will make them come to the U.K ?”

I suggest you read up on the journeys of migrants to the UK, particularly how long those journeys take.

You were just using scare tactics and there's no reason to suggest that Palestinians  will be going to the U.K

No, you are accusing me of ‘scare tactics’.

I guess there’s no reason for people from other war zones to go to the UK, but they do and for centuries have done.

But for some reason you can’t explain Gazan Palestinians will not.

Reasonable? Nope.

For starters, how will they get there? Borders are closed, maritime blockade in place, tunnels probably more under scrutiny. This isn't the same as with people coming from Africa, refugees already in Turkey and making their way to Europe etc.

I don't see either Egypt or Israel opening up the borders for such movement post-war - not unless it's an organized effort with destination accepting refugees and so on.
