webfact Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 The new chairman of Airports of Thailand (AoT), Police General Visanu Prasattongosoth, announced an ambitious plan to elevate Suvarnabhumi International Airport into the top 50 global airports within two years. The strategy, revealed yesterday, January 18, is part of AoT’s broader initiative to upgrade and increase the capacities of six airports under its jurisdiction, in response to the anticipated global resurgence of air travel in the post-Covid-19 era. The airports slated for improvement include Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, and Mae Fah Luang. The enhancements aim to accommodate a higher influx of international arrivals by bolstering airport personnel numbers and facilities, Pol. Gen. Visanu said. “AoT is focused on establishing Thailand as a regional air travel hub and propelling Suvarnabhumi airport into the world’s top 50.” Currently, the airport ranks 77th in the Skytrax World Airport Awards, a drop from its 68th rank in the preceding year. by Mitch Connor Picture courtesy of Aleliro. Popular Post ezzra Posted January 19, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2024 What this general has to do to really learn first hand what needs to be improved is to travel incognito, no entourage, buy his own ticket, get to airport by taxi and do all the procedures everyone ells is doing and than see for himself what need to be done... 5 2 1

retarius Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 One wonders what the strategy is? Or if there is any sort of strategy? Hope is not a strategy.

Sydebolle Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Well, how interesting, that the Chairman of the Airport Authority of Thailand is a Police General - what a career. His uncle happens to be Dr Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, who owns Bangkok Airways, Bangkok Air Catering, the airport of Koh Samui and the Bangkok hospital chains throughout Thailand. Maybe the Chairman, as a Police General, might have a word with the immigration to rid the system of the tremendous bureaucracy which seriously slows down the handling of travelers, results in long unnecessary queues and might be guided by immigration systems already in use in Malaysia or Singapore (latter for 20+ years already). Otherwise he will not go into history of propelling Swampy airport into the Global 50s league - for sure!
TallGuyJohninBKK Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 I've often thought that Thailand would be better off if.... --the police generals were left to run the airports.... --and the aviation professionals were left to run the Royal Thai Police!
mikebell Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 'Police general takes flight' - I wonder how many readers thought this thread was about another cop absconding to Dubai with his illicit swag?
cracker1 Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 "The new chairman of Airports of Thailand (AoT), Police General Visanu Prasattongosoth," This seems a very strange appointment for a policeman. I would expect a person from a very successful commercial career. to be appointed to a senior position of this nature.

Artisi Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 Maybe, just maybe, he has a plan, a cunning and can arrange a very cunning stunt.
