Talking and asking to the old folks now. What hobby can an old person have if they are 76 years old and are somewhat disabled? Don't hammer me with exercises. So, what is left? Watch movies all day or maybe follow AN all day long. I know there is a lot of old folks on here so what do you do?

Go old school. Read a book.

Photography ... mostly birds and wildlife for  me, with some city & landscape.   Most of my photos are snapped from porch, balcony, veranda (home or hotel), walkway or from inside the car, as a great 'blind' since animals are use to them.

Meditation. Our own minds are the most fascinating realm of exploration.

Read. Walk. Talk to strangers. Venture out on the m/c. Review data from my old research projects. Unannounced visits with friends. Swim. Tinker on the cars and motorcycles. Chores around the house.

I imagine you to be one of those *old" men who want to be old ( walking slow with your pot belly) catasphrizing your "disability " which is arthritis in the ankles as you mentioned.

You could always go down to the skate park with your mobiliy scooter do some racing and jumps with the others .

What irks me is guys my age who want to be "old" ,thru the o it's the norm

I'm still doing Jujitsu and boxing and going to the gym sometimes twice a day

My plan was always to watch movies all day ( and post a bit on TVF/ AN ), but I'm too busy to do that, and get so tired I fall asleep watching movies at night.

What do you do all day to make you tired?

I think you said your in your early 70's

You could probably still do a few hours a week nursing in a aged care home

What do you do all day that your too busy ?

Not yet, but I try not to take photos of people's face, or I'll ask.   Although, with my lenses, they'd never know I took a snap of them.   Usually prefer people not in my photos, unless adding something to it.

I take very few photos of people, or post publicly, as I'm not a fan myself of being photographed.  If I actually want them in a photo, it will be in a 'natural' position, so not looking at the camera, which I can take snap of most people in that situation, without them realizing it.

2 of my lenses have a very long reach:

If you can do that then that is obviously fine with you. But lots of old guy, and not so old guys, experienced that when they fall down it hurts, maybe for a couple of days. Whereas when they were younger, they just stood up and almost didn't notice it.

I think it's also easier to break "old" bones. So being a little careful is sometimes maybe not such a bad idea.

Lets talk again when you are 76 and had 2 broken ankles (and not arthritis and no potbelly)

I retired early to get away from nursing ( the bullying by managers is unbelievable ), so why would I do it now? No amount of money would be worth doing that again. Even if I wanted to, the BS and expense involved in getting a current practicing certificate would dissuade me.

I have a friend that works in aged care and the bullying hasn't improved since I escaped from nursing.

I've never fully recovered after being infected by covid ( long covid ) despite being vaccinated ( complete waste of time that was ), which is why I get tired easily compared to before I had it. Not about what I do all day.

I have thousands of photos, but when people looked at them they would ask why I have so few with people in them. Sometimes I'd wait for several minutes to get a shot without people cluttering up the photo.

Perhaps they were overstayers and thought you might be a government spy.

How are the old hands?

Buy yourself an acoustic guitar and learn this three chords first C, Gm E minor  and D

If nothing else, you can annoy the wife all day long in a different way that you do now.

  • 7 months later...

Paint Miniatures. I do Warhammer 40k, but there's loads of other types to paint with 3D Printers being so cheap now. It's good for hand and eye coordination, and it's VERY relaxing....

If I had a decent workshop/garage I'd be tinkering with motorbikes or scooters.  At the moments it's too damn hot n humid so I'd want a/c too.

Heading back to NZ for a break next month and will surely get back into the tinkering whilst I'm there.

What a lonely life you have

Do you have the lights turned off?

Are the Indigenous / Aboriginal crowd outside fighting on the streets?

I can just imagine it ,you all 150kg of you sitting in a chair back to the wall facing the door ,at 80yo drunk as a skunk with a shotgun , unbelievable

"Abos" , shocking ,one could class that word similar to the American "N" word

They are now known as First Nations people

Your drunk as a skunk and good on you I say ,drink for all of us
