Thailand anticipates scorching summer with temperatures up to 44.5°C

Thailand is bracing for an intense summer this year, with the Thai Meteorological Department forecasting that temperatures could soar to a sweltering 44.5 degrees Celsius. The summer season, which is expected to commence towards the end of February and last until the end of May, is predicted to be unusually severe, with temperatures rising 1-1.5 degrees above the average.

 

Additionally, rainfall is anticipated to be 30% less than normal, which could exacerbate the already challenging conditions.

The summer of 2024 is set to begin later than usual, around the fourth week of February, delayed by approximately one to two weeks. During this period, the nation is poised to experience widespread heatwaves, with the highest temperatures predicted to range between 43.0 and 44.5 degrees Celsius, particularly from mid-March to early May. However, scattered thundershowers are expected to provide some relief from the relentless heat.

 

Temperatures in upper Thailand are likely to average between 36.0 and 37.0 degrees Celsius, which is higher than the typical average of 35.4 degrees Celsius. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s summer average of 35.8 degrees Celsius and an expected decrease in rainfall by 30%.

 

Every summer, Thailand experiences seasonal storms, characterised by thunderstorms and strong winds, and occasionally, hail. These conditions can cause considerable damage to life, property, and agricultural productivity. Given the inadequate rainfall for various needs, including domestic and agricultural, especially in drought-prone areas outside the irrigation zones, the public is urged to use water sparingly and prepare for these conditions.

Nothing new. We had about 6 weeks of this kind of temperature last hot season.

 

Usually , one or two days of this is noticable but last year it seemed never ending. I actually saw 45 on our thermometer on our front balcony in the shade a couple of times !!! Had to take the rubbish out at a run . Dogs hiding under the house all day , under our air con bedroom.

It's not our fault, we are not to blame. Nothing that we do could possibly affect the planet because we're so small and the planet is so large. So whatever you do don't blame us, we are good and responsible people and we are really looking after the planet. 

 

After all it's no big deal because we have multiple alternative planets that we can move to if we need to.

Actually warmest day on record ever in some places in Scotland yesterday, warmer than most summer days. I would wait for the Thai hot season if I were you. This year it is expected to be a doozy.....place is going to become a desert!.

To be expected as we are in the warm phase of the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) weather pattern... During the warm phase (El Niño) waters in the Eastern Pacific warms up as the trade winds die down... changing the weather patterns across the globe. For SE Asia the consequences are less rains and increased temperatures. Once the patterns switch to a neutral or cool phase (La Niña) then the opposite happens.

Even a blind man could see in December that we were heading for warmer than normal weather in the run up to Songkran. In over 20 years of Thai winters this has been the warmest I have ever known, almost non existant.

Of course it is par for the course to rubbish anything the Thais say, even when they are stating the obvious.

Er, what Donald Trump said once while in a freezing NY was, Boy could we use some of that global warming now!

What you both forget is global warming is calculated by the average global temperature over about 100 years. 

Not your fault - a common mistake to confuse weather now and long term temperature.
