Whether someone could or not depends entirely on their own personal circumstances and of course their age. So it is more than feasable that for some it would be possible.

Agree, especially if living in TH, as already posted, 30k a month for 30 yrs, and that's without any investing.

I'm betting you're not a financial adviser, that's a very small sum to try and live off the returns from.

Our members, landed gentry all, are used to living off them BIG sums. But a former council estate dweller could probably make do with less.

Sounds like she had loaned money to several people too.  Perhaps one of them didn't want to pay it back.

... Or wanted to borrow more first and got declined

There was no suggestion, whatsoever, that she was a loan shark.

So who was she lending others money to? a loan is normally repayable + interest. That is the definition of a loan. IMO that is a definite suggestion she is/was a loan shark.

"So who was she lending others money to?".

She was not "lending others money", she was lending her own money  and her lending money to others does not make her a loan shark.  Traditional formal lenders charge interest, they are not loan sharks.  Loans sharks are people who lend at extremely high interest rates under illegal terms.

Just do the maths using current interest rates ,it would barely covet even the minimum 65k baht per month visa requirements

Yes, dead people are known for murdering their widows after the fact. Where do you think the money came from? You might want to read the linked story

How about YOU read the linked story. She recently married her current Swiss husband. Her previous husband left her the money!

Impossible for (most) Thais. Status is all.

I have always thought that, if my b/f won the lottery, the whole of Surin & Buriram would know within 24 Hours.

Ahh,a lady member how refreshing.

Ok.  She disappeared.  So how would the young relative know/think she was dead?

As Scuba said she should have not let anyone know how much money she had.  Sounds like she had loaned money to several people too.  Perhaps one of them didn't want to pay it back.

Then she may have bad mouthed him and he lost face, ect ect, happened to my friends wife she bad mouthed a cop because he didnt pay money back, next thing you know bullets flew through there house one night, luckily they were in the bedroom and the concrete wall protected them, the money was never repaid, and nothing happened to the cop.

it would however easily enable one to keep the 800k in the bank   even less if married.

The fact that her inheritance was widely known makes for a large pool of suspects. If Roland (Swiss husband #2) didn't scheme to have her killed (which seems unlikely, but not out of the question), there were probably quite a few local Thais who thought about a similar scheme. She will either turn up dead, or in a casino somewhere (with a new b/f).

The husband has confessed and led the police to the body.

They estimate she's been dead 20 days, which leads back to the time she went missing after a domestic, and he went to Pattaya the next day.
