  • Will they put shutters in front of the bottles like they did cigarettes ?

  • put graphic labels on cars as well. possible to die in an accident. warning.

  • Brilliant idea.   This will stop drinkers in their tracks. Alcohol sales will surely plummet.  The Boon Rawd family will be out on its ear within a year.

question its effectiveness in altering consumer behaviour.

Put into perspective (ie., with data), Thailand ranks 4th in the East and Southeast Asia region following Japan, Laos and South Korea in terms of alcohol consumption per capita. Worldwide Thailand out of 189 countries ranks 60th between Sweden 59th and Uganda 61st where as Japan ranks 39th, Laos 42nd and South Korea 48th. (2019 data)

Alcoholism in Thailand doesn't seem so extraordinary.

Another pointless money wasting idea

Not entirely.

Bribe for RTE Funds

Doomed to fail as has been seen almost everywhere the only thing that that stops people drinking and smoking is by upping the cost not silly labels.

And so what are they doing reducing the cost of alcohol by tax decreases.

Talk about dysfunctional government.

***WARNING*** This product can make you drunk!!!

Talk about brazen self interest. This MFP guy is a producer himself so it may affect his personal business. Nothing to do with the general public.

No, the graphic labels should be tattooed on Thai Drivers and a few Foreigners

Amazing how even elected officials are as dumb as a brick. The graphic warning labels have done absolutely nothing in deterring smokers - why do they think it'll deter drinkers? it will just be unpleasant, might even cover it, but **** no it won't stop me from drinking. They should spend less time telling people what to do and worry more about what they can do for the people. (hint: stop limiting alcohol sale hours, stop limiting nightlife hours, stop the ridiculous Buddha day alcohol bans, and in general **** off from interfering with how people want to spend their days or nights)

He is not wrong though. This WILL impact small manufacturers a lot more than it will the big guys.

It seems rather pointless. I drink from a glass; if people are drinking from a bottle ( which personally I dislike) then more often than not it is covered by one of those polystyrene foam sleeve things.

in my experience, very few people drink beer from a bottle if you exclude foreigners. Most Thais buy large bottles which those "condoms" aren't available for. Most Thai bars, you cannot even buy small bottles.

What about sugar and product containing excess amounts of sugar? We all know the risks of smoking and alcohol but these hidden sugars in our foods kill more people each year than cigarettes and booze added together

The new rule has faced opposition from Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, a Move Forward Party MP for Bangkok, who champions the liberalisation of rules on alcohol production. He argues that the regulation will not only fail to deter drinking but will also increase production costs for small-scale alcohol producers.

It often seems that Move Forward is the main party in government who uses logic.

And how does this matter of he is right? In fact, for this reason, he is better off to talk about this than others who don't have the experience.

Worthless idea. Makes about as much sense as pixilating movie scenes that show alcohol. The only person this helps is the person who prints labels.

Who most likely bears some familial connection to the guy pushing the idea through

Can I suggest the wording of this new idea?

WARNING!

Drinking of alcohol under the current Government regulations is frowned upon and you may feel uncomfortable with the restrictions on purchasing times and the extortionate taxation of said product.

This discomfort is likely to further disrupt the pleasure of your holiday in Thailand.

Use with caution - don't enjoy yourselves.

There.

Warning administered!

Variations of this theme available for locals and Expats.

Accompanied by a photo of a pickled liver ?

I would guess the real intention is to help the big alcohol makers in Thailand create more barriers for smaller producers and importers of alcohol.

As an importer you'd have to slap a label on the imports yourself. The upshot is people with little money to

spend on alcohol are left the lowest quality stuff which is even more of a health hazard and encourages drinking for

the sake of getting drunk only because it isn't enjoyable in any other way. But that is win for the alcohol companies because

they likely invest in pharma and health care industries and piuck up more big money that way.

Where is the evidence that this works? Is there another country that has stickers on  drinks bottles that has seen a lowering of alcohol sales? Kids can see alcoholics anywhere in Thailand and it doesn't put them off.

If only they could prove that their cigarette pack stickers lowered smoking. Was raising cigarette prices or exposed lungs more effective?

How about just  locally produced alcohol over 30%.

This will include that bloody Lao khao which kills thousands of Thais every year

(Just raw dangerous rice spirit)
