Thailand’s population to halve in 60 years, warns deputy PM

Featured Replies

Population decline is a huge problem for inflation and for getting services.  It can spiral things out of control in a big hurry.

The thing that makes me chuckle is that this has been on people's radar for nearly 40 years and first world nations have been actively increasing immigration to cope with the shortfall.  Less people, less taxes, less businesses, etc etc etc.

AS usual, poorly run nations, like poorly run companies end up at the back of the line.  Companies end up bankrupt and Thailand,, if it continues to act like a third world nation in a broad sense, will continue on its slide downward to third world status.

This is what corruption does.  It's a cancer.  People who have no business being in places where they should don't look out for anything other than short term selfish gains.

So true. Actually a drop in population is the only way to save to Planet.

  • There is an economic balancing act between the older and younger generations supporting each other, but I personally wouldn't mind less people around. It seems like mostly billionaires are worried abo

It's a problem for a few decades as a declining younger generation has a lot more older people to support. Once the excess older generations have expired, everything will be fine. In the end, it will balance out.

People spend too much time in the cyber universe these days rather than in the real world. Readily available pornography has a negative effect on men wanting to meet females in real life too. This has become quite clear in countries like Japan where are large percentage of men in their 20s and 30s are still virgins. They either have no interest in meeting real partners or they are afraid to. I've found that Thai females are very aggressive these days, so it might be a similar problem in Thailand.

Does AI pay income taxes?

Good question. Companies that own machinery (that is not AI) pay taxes on the results of manufacturing so I reckon that is what will happen.

Somsak advocated for targeted campaigns aimed at younger women to bolster the birth rate.

So he went to a meeting aimed at preventing young women from having babies and proposed that the government urge young women to have babies?

it is not that people here lose half of their salary to pay for the old, the sick and the lazy...

less people would be great...
