The Government of Thailand has chosen not to declare Chiang Mai a disaster zone despite escalating air pollution, according to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. The decision was largely influenced by concerns that such a declaration could negatively impact the province’s tourism industry.

Why not declare it a disaster zone, do something and tourists will come?

Or is that too hard to comprehend?

Money vs health.

This is why PTP is referred to as the minority party.

This is about all they care about their population but the World is reporting Chiang Mai as a disaster area so this might well back fire on these greedy uncaring b***ards......so many expats have left for the Southern areas our car park is half empty at the moment.

He also urged the government to develop clear short-, mid-, and long-term strategies with measurable KPIs and a clear timeline, detailing what needs to be urgently done to mitigate the problem this week, this month, next month, and next year.

Don't hold your breath.

PM2.5 air pollution was behind approximately 29,000 deaths in Thailand in 2021, according to a Greenpeace Southeast Asia analysis of IQAir data. The number of air pollution-related deaths per capita in Thailand last year exceeded those from road accidents, drug use and homicide combined, a new report finds.

And you go search, best places to retire, and Chiang Mai and Thailand in general are on the list. Air quality affect the very young and the old retiree's the MOST.. Advice I give to my friends is!  If retired stay out to Thailand all together. Even for a short visit.

Thank goodness for the anti western sentiment the Thai government is projecting to the people. At least people from the US will stop visiting.

In other words, your money is more important than your health. What a stupid statement could he have made. It’ll hurt the tourism sector. Boo hoo. Take care of the issue, or at least say that you’re trying hard to get it under control for the sake of tourism. Makes no sense.
