Bad little fuses - be aware!

Featured Replies

I saw these videos today about low quality fuses.

Louis puts 8A through a 2A fuse and the fuse does not blow. Bad.

See yourself!

I will now check my AliExpress fuses which I use for my LED lights.

Ouch, at least it did open eventually! I've seen fake MCBs that were literally just a switch!!!

This is the datasheet for similar devices from Littelfuse (a known quality brand)

https://www.littelfuse.com/~/media/automotive/datasheets/fuses/passenger-car-and-commercial-vehicle/blade-fuses/littelfuse_atof_datasheet.pdf

The characteristic curves from that datasheet.

Their 2A fuse should open in less than 0.1s at 8A!

Thanks, Crossy.

In the second video the Swiss engineer shows such charts from Bosch automotive fuses.

Why do you need a fuse on a LED?

I have 200W 24V power supplies connected to LED controllers which are connected to several LED strips.

The LED controllers have several fuses like above. If there is a shortcut in one of the strips the fuse will cut that connection - at least if the fuse works the way it should work.

Something like this:
