British tourist fined for getting car stuck on Phuket beach

A British tourist found himself in a sticky situation after getting his rental car stuck in sand on Phuket's Kamala Beach. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 22, led to a 4,000 baht fine for the tourist under the Land Traffic Act.

 

According to witnesses, the 26-year-old man had been driving along the beachfront sidewalk when heavy rainfall caused him to veer off course and become stranded in the sand. Despite his efforts, he was unable to free the Krabi-registered Toyota Fortuner from its sandy trap.

 

Upon arrival at the scene, Kamala Police took action to remove the vehicle and issued the fine, citing the illegal operation of the car in a manner that endangered property and individuals. Additionally, the tourist has been instructed to compensate the car rental company with 20,000 baht for the damages incurred.

 

This incident sheds light on the recent trend of locals and foreigners driving on Kamala Beach, raising concerns about the preservation of the area's natural landscape and the safety of beachgoers and property.

Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the amounts dished out. Maybe he will head back under cover of darkness and get his 'moneys worth'...

Every Friday when I lived in the UAE I would drive along the coast from Sharjah to the Marine club in Umm Al Quwain on the way back there would always be one or two local Arabs on the beach trying to get their stuck Corvette or Transam away from the incoming tide, usually they did not succeed and the car would be engulfed by the sea and then left there to become a rusted salt water wreck.

Yep more money than brains over there... 

 

Mind you I did spend one night in a slammer in Fujairah once.  It was a mix up of work related things and I was released the next morning. 

 

Took 4 days to get my passport back tho.  Saw lots of Emiratees hooning in the dunes between there and Dubai.

If the photo shows where he was stuck then he must be a poor driver. The Fortuna is 4 wheel drive and would handle that without missing a beat.
