The ruing by the top NY State Supreme Court said (in simple terms) evidence was admitted against Weinstein which shouldn't have been admitted.

That seems to often be a key component of appeals including some underway in other cases.

Disgraced Hollywood figure Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction in New York has been overturned by the New York Court of Appeals, citing a lack of fair trial due to the inclusion of witnesses whose accusations were not part of the charges against him.

Trust the prosecution to make a mess of what should have been a slam dunk conviction. Do they take special classes in how not to conduct a proper prosecution, or are they just incompetent?

Absolutely correct.

I hear tell of an incident today in which a document was presented in court that had absolutely no relevance to the case being argued.

If the judge is in the ball he’ll direct to jury to ignore the document and the submitting attorney’s statements relating to the document.

A judge who’s on the ball can avoid opportunities for spurious claims of false evidence.

I suspect he will be found guilty in the retrial as well. Too much evidence.

What an idiot. All that money and power, he could have had rooms full of high class escorts prepared to do whatever he liked. I suspect he enjoyed the thrill of "getting away with it" and the power of forcing women to 'perform' for their roles.

While I'm sure some of the women were prepared to give it up for the sake of their careers, it doesn't change the fact that he is a disgusting individual.

Maybe they were not sure if he knew or had more to sneak out then Epstein ? If every such pig were to be jailed, most of the high-end swanky golf clubs  in the US, UK and other trendy destinations,  would plainly shut down.

I don't disagree with your opinion of him, but IMO if every disgusting individual in places of power in the entertainment, financial, and political systems worldwide were convicted they would have to build about a million new prisons to keep them in.

Yep. Ricky Gervais (legend) only just scratched the surface when he ripped the stars to shreds at the Golden Globes, including a dig at those who turned a blind eye to Weinstein's offenses.

Perhaps part of the conviction process could be seizing their funds and using the money to fund prisons?

Let's hope they do that before Diddy is convicted. That dude is loaded.

I never took much notice of the trial as it seemed like a bunch of women that had colluded to have sex with him in return for favourable treatment in movies ( as has happened since entertainment became an industry ) changing their minds and complaining ( as has happened for decades ) that he forced them.

Perhaps he did get off more by forcing them; I don't know as I wasn't in the room, but I do know that any man that has fame and or power has zero problems finding women only too keen to have sex with them.

IMO for every 6 or so that he accepted their offers, he also pushed another 1-2 to do it or else they are out.  It was a common thing done and it was often exploitation by both. But his demise was inevitable in the long run, because the modern rule for men is simple - if you accept 'favours' from women for your favours, there will be some that will come back and bite you later.  The reality is that women are crazy (lies become the truth), and men are stupid (anything for puss....).

how come he did not get the epstein treatment ?

Weinstein acted alone.

Epstein involved many powerful people in his crimes. He thought having dirt on them would protect him. In reality, the opposite was true.

It sounds like he will be transferred to the California Corrections Department to continue serving his 16-year sentence there for rape.

Beats upstate NY (Rome).

Not sure this NY reversal will impact his California conviction as the rules of evidence in rape cases is different.

He didn't have blackmail evidence against the people that run the country.

Marvellous news. Set him free immediately to sexually harass the Palestinians in Gaza. Or they could have him replace Trump for the Republican Party....

Maybe his 'associates' do hence he's now free.

I'd argue that WeinStein (and the rest of hollyweird, netflix etc) are part of the degeneration/subversion (of the public/NPCs) operation of a certain group whereas epStien dealt with the compromat of the political and corporate class for the same group.

Would also point out that very very very feew people know 'the fate [of] epstien' as the cameras on/in his cell mysteriously stopped working and both of the guards fell asleep at the time of whatever happened happened.

The man is a pig, agree. He forced himself on many non-willing women, yes or very likely. And I agree with your conclusion. But don't generalize too quickly. There were also women who knew that their only talent in the film industry was their body, and accepted his offers, some for rather long periods. What the romans called "Quid pro quo". I have one particular actress in mind, who by her own account disclosed that there was no forced sex but rather consensual, carried on for years. Finally when even her body was not a hot currency anymore she jumped ship and was a leader of the metoo movement.

I completely agree, a lot of women use their body as a instrument of currency, and a way to manipulate men, no question about that. That happens all over the world and it's been happening since the beginning of time, more than likely.

But that doesn't excuse his behavior, when a man is in a position where he can have 90% of the women who come along, he becomes an animal if he insists on having the other 10%.

A good day for all normal men and heterosexual relationships.

This thread is about Weinstein, not Diddy.

Bit like the prosecutor in the OJ trial....Marcia Someone....spent two weeks trying to establish that he was a serial wife beater, and as one of the jurors said afterwards, 'even if he was a wife beater, it don't make him no murderer'.

I disagree, even if he was a wife beater, that wouldn't mean that he was a murderer .

It does make him no murderer, rather it doesn't make him no murderer

The case that sparked the “me too” movement and the phrase “women should be believed”, but all the ended with Tara Reade….
