What war was 51 years ago?

He served in the King's Regiment of the British army between 1969 and 1973, nowhere was it reported that he fought in a war.

Must have died penniless then and his family cant be bothered to pay for a funeral. They ought to be ashamed of themselves begging for funeral costs

Most temple have a coffin you can donate for funeral costs.

Another useless article. His family need to know exactly how he died.

Another useless post.  What makes you think that they don't know or that they would only find out from AseanNow?

It seems this article's primary purpose is to publicise the GFM .

I don't see how this death warrants do much column space and the tragic death in a road accident of the woman is reduced to a foot note....yet the latter clearly raises more issues.

So what?

The woman's death has already been well covered.

Due to the quality visitors who come to Thailand with no money or no travel insurance, that things become difficult for other decent folks. RIP to the deceased of course.

But after 55 years of age say, it could be a good idea to plan in advance such issues and leave sufficient funds for any form of health emergency repatriation back home or other situations that need repatriation.

No finger pointing at anybody but such situations do give a bad image to the entire foreign community in Thailand and mainly the pensionners.

But what is the UK embassy doing ? After all the UK like the US does have trillions of dollars to send all over Ukraine or Israël. Could the UK embassy not show some respect and use a few pennies to repatriate the remains of their citizen who has served their wars all over the world ?

The U.K doesn't give Israel any money , let alone "trillions" $

RIP Roy.

Somebody probably squirted him in the head with one of those blue water pipes during Songkhran.

Scam...Army pension plus state pension does not leave anyone poor. He looks like an ex-officer so the pension would be substantial.

Odd comment, obviously from somebody who has never served or put on a uniform and defended their country.

I really served the army for 2 years as server and not as employee

OK where? So why do they need to cover this mans death. A lot of volumn inches but no real detail?

The media in Thailand is highly restricted in what they can cover so there is a tendency to fill space with these sort of non stories.

Really?  The news media is restricted on what it can publish?  Royal family excepted, such as what?

Perhaps you should retire from the thread, you are looking rather stupid.......:coffee1:

Hear, hear, although I'd suggest that "spectacularly" would be a better word then "rather"!

He served 4 years so will not get an Army pension. “ Looks like an ex officer” where the hell did you get that little nugget from? What utter drivel you write based purely on your own incorrect assumption. SMH.

But he didn't "serve their wars all over the world"!   Why should the Embassy set a precedent by funding the repatriation of a citizens/remains, something that it is not there for nor has the authority to do?

Because it IS of interest to many people.

nonsense - it is because they can't publish real news and either have to fill space or one of the staff is a friend of the deceased
