Ozempic/Semaglutide

There's been  much publicity about drugs to tackle diabetes and weight loss.Recently I read that they can also reduce the risk of heart disease and this week I read they may in the future be prescribed to millions of middle aged people.The reports I have seen make it clear these drugs should be combined with exercise and good diet.It seems there are some side effects but they appear to be manageable.

 

It would be interesting to know the position in Thailand.Weekly injections are needed (about Bt 12,000 I believe)

For in Thailand Ozempic weight loss pen is considered a dangerous drug that must only be prescribed by a doctor. By law, trading cannot be done through online channels or general stores. It is also expensive. and may not be effective for weight loss If you want to lose weight, you should use other methods that are safer and get more certain results.

Of course it has to be prescribed by a doctor, and specifically for diabetics not for those who want to lose weight.Contrary to what you say it seems to be very effective in most cases and as I mentioned earlier the medical advice is that it should be combined with exercise/calorie control/good diet.Obviously I'm no expert but all the indications these drugs are here to stay and presumably will be improved and get less expensive over time.

 

I had wondered whether any member has had personal experience.It would be interesting to know.

Too limited supply in hospital stocks to be prescribed for weight loss. No way to purchase it elsewhere.

I have taken it. Outstandingly effective, I lost a lot of weight and my fasting blood sugars improved along with my longer term blood sugar, HbA1C levels. What I found is that it makes me feel profoundly nauseous and not really wanting to eat anything. I went from 94 to 80 KG in 3 months. I used the two lower dosages because I was unable to tolerate the higher dosage levels.

Now the downside: When I stopped taking it, I immediately put all the weight back on and then some. I went from 80kg to 96kg in 2 months....hungry all the time and nothing would help the cravings.

Intermittent fasting and avoid eating carbs, sugars, and processed foods.  Does the same and saves you money.

2 of my friends told me the same.

To have the benefits you have to stay with the drug for lifetime. A bit expensive at present 🙏

The husband of one of my wife's friends took it. A big fellow about 55 years old. Definitely obese.  Anyway he couldn't tolerate it. Played hell with his digestive system (stomach pains/cramps, nausea/vomiting etc). I think he gave up after 6-8 weeks.

Thank you for sharing your experience.You might be interested to know a recent study reported in the British press indicated the weight could be kept off when not taking the drug by very slowly tapering off usage.Obviously this drug treatment is at a very early stage.It's hard to believe that in ten years time many of the teething problems won't have been ironed out.Cost down too probably.

In Thailand you may find this difficult to get even with a prescription. 

Just check/Google  IndiaMART   They don't ask for a prescription  and most likely a bit cheaper.

What this drug does is that it slows down the movements of your intestines so all your, by now, fermenting food is backlogged up all the way and I believe releasing toxins into your blood stream.

Another job for your liver to sort out.

i guess better food choices and amount of food is the answer.

I don't think it would be a good idea to self prescribe especially with drugs from India.

 

I would suggest any prospective consumer should be under the strict guidance of an experienced physician at a major hospital.That would not include a particular clinic favored by some expatriates where on my last two visits the doctor in charge has put on an eccentric display (to put it politely) including screaming at the support staff.

Not really accurate at all but easy to research for those who are genuinely interested.

My docs here swiched me over to Jardiance Duo from my long term insulin regime.

Quite helpful in the glucose control dept. and I had lost ~ 15 kilos with it. It too is expensive though as a recently patented drug.

Semaglutide tablets 3mg, 7mg and 14mg approved in Laos. A day trip to Vientiane and you can get yourself a 6 month supply at any pharmacy carrying them.

Have you brought this product? How have you found it? Is it working for you? Do you trust it? And what was the cost if you know for each 3/7/14mg? I'm i Thailand & may look to make a trip to Laos to buy a few months of this. Thank you.

Ozempic is easily available in popular expat cities, like Pattaya.  Available in hospitals and clinics (eg Pulse $450/pen, lasts ~6 weeks). 

Once a week injection with "pen" is much simple.  I hate needles, but the pen needle is the smallest shortest needle I ever saw.  I don't feel it.  Injection takes under 7 seconds. 

Taking the pill is daily and more complicated.  If you take the pill incorrectly, the dose will have little or no effect, because it will no pass through the stomach wall into the blood.

I don't want to discourage you. 

But if you would have been able to change your "eating habits" you wouldn't have needed Ozempic in the first place. 

Hopefully, you are an exception to the rule.

Yes, it's great! I'm not sure of the retail cost. I get them at cost because I know someone at the factory

You're correct, tablets are a lot less convenient. The dosage for tablets is pretty hard to screw up, unless you just forget to take them

@henryvientiane About 2 weeks ago while I was up there, I went around to just about every pharmacy in Vientiane and none of them had it. Went to the ones near the hospitals and many of the largest but no luck. Where exactly can I buy them? I appreciate any help you can give to track down where to buy them.

It is used  for weight loss in Thailand, even in non-diabetics, but for people with significant obesity

 

Besides injection there is an oral form (Rybelsus).  Something to be said for taking it orally at least at first in case the side effects are intolerable, since the injectable dose lasts a week.

 

There are side effects, contraindications  and also important potential drug interactions.

 

For those who tolerate it, definitely works, but the problem is to then keep the weight off after stopping.

I am sure it was the same clinic and doctor who accused me of buying benzos from one of her staff under the table or coming to the clinic twice for the same prescription.  Completely and absurdly falsely!  At least I think that is what she was accusing me of, she was incoherent on each of the three bizarre phone calls she made to me.  I was patient and polite and tried to help her.  I tried to make sense out of it from her staff who told me there was a problem the FDA (I think) was investigating.

By taking it ! 

 

You know what happens when you take ozempic ... you start feeling full. 

 

Fake ozempic is usually just insulin, stops sugar cravings for a bit - but has no effect on appetite or how much you eat.
