Woman Arrested for Allegedly Organising Fake Weddings

In the coastal resort city of Hua Hin, Thai cyber police have apprehended a woman believed to be at the centre of an elaborate wedding scam. Wimonrat, the alleged mastermind behind this matrimonial fraud, has left many couples high and dry after pocketing substantial deposits for venue and wedding preparations that never materialised.

Wimonrat, a 37-year-old resident of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, was a wanted individual with no less than three different arrest warrants issued against her. These date back to early 2021 from courts across Thailand including Samut Prakan Provincial Court, Chon Buri District Court, and Thon Buri Criminal Court. Her deceitful actions have reportedly caused damages exceeding 150,000 baht (£3,500).

Operating under the guise of an online wedding planner, she tempted unwitting couples with promises of a dreamy, picture-perfect wedding. After receiving substantial deposits, Wimonrat failed to make any bookings or arrangements, eventually disappearing into thin air leaving her clients distraught.

Victims, united in their misfortune, raised a collective voice against these fraudulent tactics, leading to the collective loss of 165,400 baht (£3,917). The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, under the command of Vorawat Watnakornbancha, swiftly set about tracking down the alleged conwoman.

Federal officers arrested Wimonrat at her apartment, slapping her with charges of defrauding the public and fraudulently altering computer data, acts identified as harmful to the public.

Now in custody, she awaits her day in court. Her fate will be determined at the Phra Samut Chedi Police Station, sending a strong message to other potential fraudsters that there's no veil thick enough to hide from the law.

So is her fate to be decided in court  or in the police station?    Abysmal reporting as usual

Not so much of a strong message since almost 4 years have passed after the initial incident

dear AI, they are using envelopes here, not veils

The only strong message being sent out here is that AI has a long way to go before it can even produce a news article worth reading

This forum used to be called Thai Visa and was my goto source for decent visa information, Following  the  involvement of AI in most of the stories on here nowadays,  I would  very reluctant to base any visa related decisions on what I read on this website
