Elon Musk says AI will take all our jobs

Featured Replies

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/23/tech/elon-musk-ai-your-job/index.html

“If you want to do a job that’s kinda like a hobby, you can do a job,” Musk said. “But otherwise, AI and the robots will provide any goods and services that you want.”

Sounds good , doesn't it ?

Not really realistic with a world populated with +8000 million people ... ?

What do you think ?

Will it pay everyone not to work or will it realize we're dead weight and kill us?

If you were "AI" which would you do to inferior alien entitiies?

Get rid of them .

A genetically modified and lethal Coronavirus would do the job ...

I posted about that before , here is it :

... " But , I think that , after the Coronavirus , Scientists in isolated underground laboratories somewhere are busy creating a  more lethal version of it that will be released when they think the time has come . The vaccine against that only available for the ' chosen few ' . It would be a cruel , but relatively clean way to get rid of the human overpopulation without destroying too much of the biosphere and keep the planet in a livable condition .

Only that would mean that the present capitalistic , profit based system can be replaced by a system where robotic workforce and AI take care for the wellbeing of the survivors ... "

A utopia , but not for everyone .

Elon Musks is smart, and he has some good ideas, and he talks a lot when the day is long.

I think we shouldn't take him too serious. He doesn't know everything, and he regularly overestimates things.

I hope AI enjoys stealing my job.... RETIRED! Welcome Elon!

Musk is correct. I think we are doomed.

The 1% will try and replace workers with AI robotics and then the unemployed will not be able to afford anything so the economy will collapse.

Civil war will follow and after that it's anyone's guess.

Not if your pension is paid out of taxation.

I think he is spot on with this. Look how many jobs have already been replaced by machines. It hasn't even really begun.

Agree 100%. I think covid was a trial run.

It's been a common theme in literature and movies, and such usually comes to pass.

And then there are many other jobs because of those machines.

They were not AI though. Not even close. AI will fix itself.

I actually thought that robots and AI would be used to help people ...

Stupid me ... just stumbled on the following article :

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/28/china/china-military-rifle-toting-robot-dogs-intl-hnk-ml/index.html

China's military displayed a machine gun equipped robot battle "dog" during joint drills with Cambodia

It looks like something out of the dystopian show “Black Mirror,” but it’s just the latest adaptation of robotics for the modern battlefield.

China’s military showed off a robot dog with an automatic rifle mounted on its back, essentially turning man’s best (electronic) friend into a killing machine.

an automatic rifle mounted under a six-rotor aerial drone, illustrating what the video says is China’s “variety of intelligent unmanned equipment.”

In 2020, the US Air Force demonstrated how it used robotic dogs as one link in its Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), which uses artificial intelligence and rapid data analytics to detect and counter threats to US military assets.

Global Times, the presence of the robotic dogs at exercises with foreign militaries indicates an advanced stage of development.

“Usually, a new equipment will not be brought into a joint exercise with another country, so the robot dogs must have reached a certain level of technical maturity,” Global Times quoted an unnamed expert as saying.

24 Underwater Drones - The Boom in Robotics Beneath the Waves: Page 2 ...

Mankind can be so innovative when it comes to destruction ... drones , robot dogs , underwater drones ...

Sometimes I think that movies like the ' terminator ' series with Arnold Schwarzenegger are really prophetic of the dystopian future of mankind ...

Yup. Even as I write, our illustrious leaders are probably wondering on how much death they can buy with killbots, or if it'll be cheaper to conscript the cannon fodder.

Given the 1% will likely own all the patents, helping people will IMO be waaaaaaay down on the list of things to do with AI bots. First thing is likely to be replacing humans as factory workers, then they'll work their way up the skill list.

No doubt their fortified enclaves will have Robo cop type mecha bots to keep the unemployed riff raff away.

Welcome to the future, you poor deluded souls that thought the 1% would share!

The whole AI thing is still in its infancy. And Musk is right, I think. Lots of people will be losing their jobs. For sure, businesses will get rid of any employee they can replace with a bot or a robot.

The process has already begun. Some McDonald’s restaurants have already done away with most workers.  Not too long ago, I ate lunch at a place in Central Festival mall that was testing out a robot for food delivery to the tables. I’ve seen robots going around a grocery store with food. Robo taxis will be arriving soon.  They’re even testing out semitrailer trucks that drive themselves.
