For a while now when using the Kasicorn bank app they have been asking me to change my phone number.

I have my "call"number registered but they are detecting my data sim when I connect and they ask if I want to change to this number.

Those of us who work here usually have our phone SIMS registered in our company's name. This is a standard practice among business people for tax purposes. I guess I'll either have to get an additional card or lose the tax write-off. This will affect a lot of Thai business people as well. Again, it's a common practice to put your personal phone in the company's name.  Oh well, SSDD.

Yeah that should be fun when we are overseas on a trip using a data sim, which is a normal practice, then to possibly have our bank accounts disabled.

I believe this is proving an issue for Thais too, many of whom have their phones set up to handle a family member's' account. My Mrs does it  for her elderly mother, who could not possibly handle mobile banking.

I am sure you are being facitious - and that you already knew Thias are not at the top end of the evolutionary pole for IQ. That is why there is no Mensa branch here (despite the prestige available if someone was a member) and the Thailand Facebook site for Mensa members is open to all people residing/working here, and still has less than 100 members (86).

Yes, it's my only phone. I use it for work and some of that work involves online banking. I could have two SIM cards, but that seems an additional step that shouldn't be necessary. Yes, go after obvious criminals. There are a lot of us legitimately using our phones for business and personal use.

Yes, the average here is I believe 88......yikes!

So I believe. I think of that issue and laugh whenever I read yet again another Falang stating that Thailand needs a better education system, in response to whatever problem happens, as if that would solve the many problems and faults here.

Should you be making private calls etc on a company phone?

That is why I put my own name on my phone number. Most company business I do by email for ease of reference and filing.

My call sim is registered with Kasicorn,but they are asking me to change to the data sim number,this I cannot do as it is not registered with Kbank,must register at branch first.

Can't think what other info I can provide

Most of the leaders/governments were never voted into office.

Is this REALLY a stupid, brainless idea?

Me too am inconvenienced, as my number (around 10 years) in NOT in my name, and I am not in Thailand right now. My Bank app has already been restricted for outgoing transactions. But, I can view and remit moneys to it.

 

OK. I myself did activate the option Lock transfer/top up/ pay via app many months ago and it was reversible, until recently

 

When I inquired from them via email, they informed me...

... please note that if you have previously activated the ‘Lock transfer / top up / pay via app’ function, it is compulsory for you to verify your identity by scanning your face within the application to unlock this function. We regret to inform you that we are unable to unlock the function or verify your face ID via the email channel due to security measures and verification limitations.

 

Well, I guess security measures are increasing, to match the crime rates  that are going up steadily.

 

Better safe than sorry, I think.

Yes, it's not a big deal and we're a small family-owned business, not a corporation. Our phone are in the company name at the suggestion of our accountant. That's what she does with her firm and if you check around, you'll likely find that a lot of people here do the same thing. This is Thailand. It's less anal-retentive than police-state countries, though there are signs that it's heading that way. 😏

The majority of my business is done by email and WhatsApp.

Just another step to teach, who is the real owner of your money, who decides about, how, when, for what, you'll get access to it.
As usual, in Thialand, the efforts to jump on bandwagons, are clumsy due to the average dilettantism.
It just takes a bit longer, until anything works normal again.
But, all only for your own safety. To fight human trafficking, child-porn, internet fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, terrorism, etc.
are favourite samaritan reasons for it.

OMG, do these idiots running government here ever think through clearly about policy changes before they implement them.

 

As stated above, by many.... many scenarios where the owner of the bank account performing the mobile transaction is not the current registered owner of the SIM card. 

 

e.g. family plan, business ownership, replacement SIM card in travelling countries....and so on

 

Seems, if it's in their Thai DNA intellect...  no matter if it's BOT, IMM, RD and now NBTC.....

 

Understand their strategy, but in life you can't legislate everything to protect everyone.

 

With technology comes advantages and disadvantages.......a little education and common sense go a long way to mitigating spam and scams.

Whose going to  enforce? 

Bank or SIM  provider? Never managed to  activate  facial recognition with Krungsri.  They didn't know what to do. BB recognition works intermittently. 

Who is going to trawl through SIM Nos and Account Nos to find a lack of matches. In fact they are looking for a needle in a haystack. Only way they can enforce this is to apply it on initial account application including  mobile app set up which is quite enough to  stop mule accounts.

Just like the  retrospective tightening up of tax on incoming transfers this is yet another example of floating an idea to see if it will fly!
