Hi. I need a hip replacement, and it's way overdue. I'm gathering data about having it done in Phuket, at Bangkok Phuket Hospital. I live in Phuket, I like the surgeon here, and they would fly a highly experienced Bangkok surgeon to Phuket to lead the procedure. However, some expats I trust have said I must fly to Bangkok to reduce risk and ensure the best outcome. On the other hand, a Thai friend who works in the medical industry assures me that Bangkok Phuket hospital is fine. Has anyone here had orthopedic surgery in Phuket, or have friends who have? How was the outcome? Would you recommend it? Much appreciated!

I'd prefer to stay near my home for this major surgery, if it's safe to do so.

Have not had major orthopedic surgery, but have used BPH and recommend it. Since the plan entails staying near home, I think you will be fine going this route.
