A bit like saying only losers get into car accidents.

No, it´s most definitely not!

In one case you have the scenario with a packed go-bag if a relation or something else would go wrong.

In the other case, you would probably not buy spare parts for your car in case you will have an accident.

My "go bag" is called a suitcase, and I will cram it with as much of what I consider important  as I can if I ever need to get out fast.

Luckily, the airport terminal is literally five minutes from me.

Mine is also called a suitcase, has been packed for years, mostly warmer clothes/shirts/trousers that have never worn here. have a carry-on case with a few bits in + a paper list + list on PC so my partner can fill the rest up-to-date things [Med's/passport/phone/new Documents/USB HDD and so on]

Have  within easy reach a shoulder bag, has passport/Bank books, up-to-date pill box + spare insulin pen, Hospital book, up to date Dr Prescription etc

I'm not going anywhere.  If the US and the West finally provoke a war with China - I'm staying.  My family is here.

However, ardent China-haters probably should have a "go-bag" as well as giving their Western embassies their contact information so you'll be informed when the flights begin to leave Thailand.  US generals seem to be promising war with China in the next 5 years.  Better have a "go-bag."

"Go" bag reflects noob naivete.

For decades, long before WW3 fears, our shrewdest members have known that the real problem is the Thais. All the xenophobia, mistreatment, changing visa rules, price gouging, scamming, no smiling, indifferent sales clerks, hostile banks, confiscatory taxes, and insulting haircuts that show they don't want us here. In general, it's just that incomprehensible lack of love towards the poor farang just for showing up and being their lovable fat selves in cargo shorts, looking for cheap beer and pussy. It's all about money!!! NAKED DISGUSTING GREED for which life among the benevolent populace in the UK never prepared us.

So you never know what more nasty surprises THEY have in store for us! Be ready to RUN.

ANOTHER pothole targeted at farangs? Thais! How much more???

What we're looking for here is the classic, shrewd, street-smart ANF Poster Three Primal Laws Of Survival In Thailand, distilled over many years from the sage advice of our most knowledgeable members. Here ya go:

1. Never invest in anything you aren't ready to lose;

2. Never own more than you can carry with you or leave behind;

3. Keep your suitcase packed at all times.

There. All any foreigner needs. Now, enjoy!

Quoting one or more of the Laws gives you ten (+10) instant points of ANF posting cred from the peanut gallery.

What a load of xenophobic drivel!

How do you get to an airport when the roads are blocked by Soldiers or armed angry gangs of …..shirts? Better go north and bribe some hill villagers to  guide you out via one of those so-called “natural borders”. I’d rather be arrested for illegal entry to Laos than be summarily eliminated.

I don't have such a bag. And I don't plan to get one.

If I would have one, then I guess part of it would be a lot of cash, maybe 10,000 USD or more. Because if you are on the run, then you don't want to keep too many traces.

Your friendly Western embassy will send a car to pick you up and transport you to an awaiting flight out of the country.

For people going places 20 years ago maybe.

High-end portable music players thru good earphones/buds will blow away the sound you get outta your phone. They're smaller and lighter, so easily carried, esp useful at the gym (where I've seen people drop their phones); and they don't use your phone's battery, mitigating the need for a battery pack. You can spend serious coin on these players.

Enjoyed listening to mine today during a long taxi ride. The long battery life's great for long airplane rides.

You don't seem so digital after all. Guess the emphasis is more on the banana.
