Five senior officers from Bang Yi Khan Police Station have been dismissed by Bangkok police after an illegal gambling den was found near a well-known mall in Pin Klao. The action comes after police made arrests following reports of illegal gambling in the area.

On July 2, Chaiyaphon Aekkul, the Deputy Commander of Metropolitan Police Bureau Region 7, set up an investigative committee after social media reports flagged the gambling activity. The arrests, which occurred at 2pm, involved officers from the local police station and officials from the Ministry of Interior.

The arrested individuals had been involved in unlawful gambling near the Pata Pin Klao parking area, located in the Bang Yi Khan sub-district of the Bang Phlat district in Bangkok.

An investigation committee, headed by Deputy Commander Sitthimeswari Siwakup Sri Kruthanon, has been assigned to look into the matter following police guidelines and procedures. The four-member committee's findings will be processed for further actions.

Chaiyaphon also signed an order for the transfer of police officers from the Bang Yi Khan Police Station to the Operations Centre of Metropolitan Police Bureau Region 7. This is to ease the investigation process and retain operational efficiency. The transferred officers include Chief Payap Sombun, Deputy Chiefs Somsak Kerdsang and Chakorn Premruderlert, Investigation Inspector Mangkorn Panthurasri, and Patrol Inspector Banthao Chumplang. New officers have been assigned to replace them, as reported by KhaoSod.

These quick actions by the police aim at maintaining accountability and upholding the law enforcement's integrity. The discovery of an illegal gambling den near a popular shopping center has prompted intense scrutiny and immediate administrative changes.

There appears to be a serious flaw in police training college. They are meant to be taught to uphold the law, not break it, but so many graduates seem to confuse the two.

Are they just dismissed? I should hope criminal charges were filed against them as well, hopefully followed by a lengthy prison term.
