Thailand to reclassify cannabis as illegal by 1 January, 2025

apparently, there are only "plans" to make it illegal again.

this is Thailand, also known as the hub of unrealized plans.

but I have questions about the legal cannabis now (I know nothing about drugs or cannabis) :

- is the legal stuff currently sold of satisfactory quality (I read about THC limits, whatever that is, I suppose it's the actual drug active ingredient) ?

- is the legal stuff cheaper than the illegal stuff was ?

By far and a far superior quality.

I take your point, but I didn't actually seek out either. Tempted is not the same as taking it. I'm sure the effects of LSD would have been far more adventurous, more of a ride and - from all the tales at the time - far more mind-opening.

Correct - I have tried both, and LSD could give you a mind blowing trip "up" or "down", and after one trip "down" I never took it again! I did carry on with the cannabis for quite a few years though with no ill effects (apart from the occasional "whitey"!) Comical true life scenario:-

Guy lying on the floor in my flat having an aforesaid "whitey" says:-

"Call me an amblumance, mate - I don't feel so good"

His mate says "OK, you're an amblumance!"

(Shrieks of hilarity from the other 3 or 4 of us indulging in "the munchies"

(Items in inverted commas can be explained on request! 🙂 )

Another amazing policy flip-flop by The Ministry Of Silly Walks. All those legit businesses (and people's lives) that went bust during the Covid lockdowns and re-surfaced as Cannabis shops / farms etc, now about to be shut down again..

I wonder how many poor street vendors opened canabis shops?, probably zilch.

So first they make it legal and invited thousands of businesspeople to invest in shops, production, etc. Now they make it illegal and put the same thousands of people out of business.

Just another example of this government not thinking something through.

What are they going to do, make it legal again next year?

This is just bizarre.

Bear in mind too, that this government has not to date managed to pass anything. Even the gay marriage act is still not on the books. They are, by any reasonable barometer, totally useless. Still, that's why the junta installed them, so they'd not change anything.

And if they do pull this off, the only beneficiaries will be corrupt cops and the people with undue influence who will own the "medical" weed business. As always in LOS, follow the corruption.

This article is such misleading bullsh!t. The majority has already said keep it as is. And the government hasn’t actually “decided” anything yet. “The move will see cannabis flowers and extracts containing more than 0.2% THC being categorised alongside other banned drugs, while branches, stems, roots, leaves, and seeds will remain exempt from this classification.” If the plant is still legal so is THC, doesn’t make sense. Are they going to go around testing the THC levels in every shop? Even the article says less than .2% THC it doesn’t say anything in the article about banning THC title and writing style totally misleading as usual.

Yeah right . Just spent weeks in Pattaya and no way they are going to peacefully part with that kind of money look at all the shops there. Bullsh!t. Banning it again would do so much damage to their economy at this point it would lead to bad things happening in the streets.

Not quite. Recreational use was not allowed but due to poor management it got out of hand  where just about every shop that popped up was selling it for recreational use

“Reclassify as illegal” sounds like you wanted to write reclassify as a narcotic but that’s not what they are doing so you tried to write it in a misleading way another way.

Title says that they are doing it but not what your own article actually says. There’s no way they are going to get rid of something that is doing people so much good health wise and has actually saved the Thai economy. It would like shooting themselves in the foot economically possibly a lot worse.

This is why it would be a huge mistake for any farang to invest money into Thailand .ive already invested millions of baht into the Thai economy in my 19 years here .1,000s of businesses are going to be put out of business if it’s true what has been stated I have a funny feeling that the fugitive has been partly responsible for this decision after all it is he who is running the country !

The government also announced that driving will be changed from the left side to the right side. But so as to make easier for anyone to adapt the changeover will be gradual

Actually, that's not too far from what the geniuses are doing in Jomtien right now!

"Street vendors"? I'm talking about a whole section of the Thai economy (Tourism) that was closed for basically 2+ years, without any help from a supposed Government that offered virtually zero compensation. But whose connected buddies scooped up businesses and properties for peanuts.
