Suvarnabhumi Visa Exempt - Change of Tactic Applied
You said "also gets you a Tax Filing Number." Certainly sounds like you said a pink id card gets you a 'tax filing number', or Tax Identification Number as it is actually called. I just pointed out that you contrary to what you posted, you do not need a pink id to get a TIN. -

Muslim Faith Leaders Endorse Kamala Harris Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict
As well they should, it is well known that Trump is an unconditional supporter of Israel and a racist, so the idea of clearing Palestine completely off the map appears to be something that appeals to him. With Harris there will be a more humanitarian approach, and hopefully she will be willing to push back against extremist and genocidal Israeli policy. Don't get started with any nonsense here, I hate Hamas, and Hezbollah, and terrorists, but there has to be a limit as to how many women and children Israel is willing to kill to achieve a result. There's also a major question about whether or not any long-term results can be achieved through their current actions and wars. -

British National Killed in Sattahip Motorcycle Accident
So Sweden is unlike Thailand where they drive on either side of the road! I recall a close call as a pedestrian crossing Beach Road Pattaya, which is (supposedly) one way only (heading south), as I focused solely on the oncoming southbound traffic and was almost hit by a bike heading north. Agreed. It is hard to ride a big bike truly safely in LOS. That would certainly be the case for me (with over 50 years of riding experience) as it is so very hard to ride a big bike slowly and never give in to the temptation to ride more quickly. The issue is not the rider's lack of skill, but the complete lack of discipline of other road users. Sooner or later something will happen totally unforeseen which, at 50 kph can most likely be avoided/survived, but at 200 kph is a shortcut to "RIP". -

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
It was a decision taken by the affected government. Perhaps you should read the NATO Treaty. The Treaty is willfully vague, for good reason. Article 5 only commits members to a response. This is largely because of the US Constitution. The power to wage war should, according to the Constitution, belong exclusively to Congress. And this also applies to other NATO members. In 2001, the US invoked Article 5. Spain was unable to send troops to Afghanistan, and Parliamentary Approval could not be obtained. If the United Kingdom had decided to invoke Article 5 in 2018, it is not necessarily the case that WW3 would have ensued. The Collective Action that could have been taken could have included sanctions. The UK would have sounded out allies, included Secretary Tilleson, before the statement to the Commons. What is striking is that it took the US 5 months to decide to impose sanctions on certain Russian banks and sanctions, triggered by the CBW Act. Even so, the Trump government never actually enforced those sanctions. Hindsight maybe, but a stronger response 6 years ago might have averted the events of today. Instead, a US President chose to believe the Russian government, rather than his own intelligence services, and the evidence provided by the US' closest ally. In the end, he was forced to impose sanctions because of the CBW Act, because the US could not demonstrate that Russia had ceased in the use of banned chemical weapons. In conversations with the Russian government at the time, the US President chose to discuss offering US aid to fight Siberian wildfires instead. -

Marine Department Reports Barge Incident off the Coast of Songkhla
The Marine Department reported a incident on October 7, involving the Singapore-registered tugboat, CHG 11 (IMO NO. 9252319), towing the barge ETHAN, also of Singaporean registration. The barge was carrying 4,000 tons of granite on a route from Songkhla to Singapore when water entered the barge’s hull, causing the vessel to tilt to its starboard side. The incident occurred in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 3 nautical miles from the mouth of Thepha’s waterway, in Songkhla province, at coordinates Lat 6°54.1326’N Long 101°00.0676’E. Despite attempts to pump the water out, the vessel began to sink, with half of the barge submerged . The tugboat is owned by CHG Marine Services PTE. LTD., and its local representative is Lion Oil Limited. Upon receiving the distress signal, the crew of the CHG 11 was able to safely tow the barge to a shallow area for salvage operations. The incident did not occur in a major shipping lane, and no obstructions to maritime traffic were reported. All eight crew members aboard the tugboat were confirmed to be safe, with no injuries or fatalities. Additionally, there were no reports of oil spills or environmental pollution resulting from the incident. Salvage operations are ongoing, and authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure it remains under control. Picture courtesy of Marine Department. -- 2024-10-08 -

Wine In Checked Baggage
I will occasionally bring one bottle in one bag and another bottle in another bag, and I've never had an issue, though it is over the limit of 1L. If you are serious about bringing a quantity of fine wine into Thailand you can buy a customs agent, but you have to do that in advance. A friend of mine does that, it's a general from customs, he meets them at the gate, brings them on the buggy, thru immigration and they pick up his many cases of wine, and the guy drives them out his limo. But I think he pays a fairly significant annual fee for that privilege, and he brings many cases of wine and stays at a suite in a five star hotel, so money is not an object for him. -

A typical week on Thailand's roads
Maybe a century from now, when Thailand becomes a first world nation, if that happens. First of all they would have to devote trillions of additional baht to reforming the RTP and the highway patrol, both of which are spectacularly ineffective when it comes to dealing with reckless drivers, with any sort of moving violations. This almost never happens, so there is no deterrent. If I did the kind of things many of the morons on the road do in Thailand, in the US, I would lose my license in a week. Then the indifferent government would have to engage in major public safety campaigns, so Thailand has its work cut out for it, if this is ever going to change. -
