Thai MP aims to ‘stimulate’ economy with sex industry legalisation

Recommended Posts

Australian Customs permit items that can't be manufactured in Australia to be Duty Free. Australia could manufacture blow-up dolls but the Australian Workers would not do so, due to their beliefs etc. So such items are Duty Free 😉

The document suggests that banning people from working in this industry violates their rights and freedom to choose a profession or type of work, according to Section 40 of the Thai Constitution.

What about those who choose to be weed farmers or sellers?

seems like it is a little late, but all these changes are likely preparing for CBDCs
where they can collect tax on every transaction in real time

good thing right, those ho's get a <deleted>load of cash and never pay taxes

add casino's

and while you are there, remove some old laws so free speech could take place and people don't go in jail for speech, longer than a rapist

Well, now you know they are desperate..... Pathetic!

Thailand gets a lot of tourism and really outside of agendas there is no reason for Thailand to be desperate for more tourism. The nation is nearly always top 10-15 in the tourism rankings for many years. The argument that 'they need x tourism to keep a tourist industry going' is two decades old at this point.

This article is a little demoralising to me. I have hoped Thailand authorities would actually clamp down on this activity and the full moon party stuff. That's only regarding tourism. Believe I know Thai society has bigger issues but this is something that could be moved on at this point. I actually think keeping this multi-decade 'tradition' does more harm than good towards tourist numbers producing a rightly earned negative reputation, but again agendas, and I know my voice would mean absolutely nothing on these subjects so oh well..

These guys bored up in Bangkok?  Work on student Foreign Language skills development, work on Math skills so when I give a high school graduate 548 on a 348 bill they do Not need the calculator.  Work on access to advanced course for students showing higher aptitude Maybe even just online access.  Keep your stupid tax the crap out of everyone and business will leave for other tax friendly countries.

The MFP MP, Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, shared his plan to legalise professions related to porn and sex toys on his Twitter account today.

Sadly Nothing the MFP put forward will be allowed, but it could get them even more votes next election, not that the military will ever give up control of the country.

Unless maybe directed by a higher authority, and that is not ever going to happen in my lifetime IMO.

Always bemused as to why/how "sex toys" are "illegal" how about a cucumber, carrot, banana  or those massage wands.. while at the same time there are thousands of soapy massage places and curtain hotels all over the country

I'm all for the liberalisation of  porn,sex toys,sex work,massage parlours,curtain hotels,carrots,cucumbers,bananas etc etc etc

and how on earth is this related  except that some military equipment is rather phallic.

It may have been benevolent rather than public decency. Historically Thai men had near absolute dominion* over their wives and maybe if he was into plastic imitations and she wasn't, she would have no recourse if he wouldn't stop.

*culturally at least, perhaps not in practice.......

well finally thailand is going to tax its biggest asset

low tax income wakes up the dummest people i guess

living in the land of smiles for over 10 years (still do not know what they are smiling about)

i did not find much of Thailand’s beautiful culture and traditions.

maybe that is more in the villages where electricity is rare

but did find a lot porn  sex and willing ladies and lady boys on every corner

this move should double their tax revenue

How much will this "stimulate" the economy? Porn is a multi billion dollar industry in the USA (porn makes more than Hollywood apparently), but is this going to save the industry knowing how hardly anyone pays tax here?

Prostitution is fully legal in twenty nations and partially legal in many of the rest. It is completely illegal in a vanishingly smaller number of nations. The stats are easily Googled.

Rather hypocritical of Thai officialdom to pretend it is illegal, IMO, with many a nod and a wink going on behind brown envelopes, etc.

I also find its status peculiar in light of ganja flip flopping.

Just my two baht’s worth as I participate in neither.

How will this stimulate the economy, as it goes on regardless of the law. Extra tax, I think not. First sex workers will not declare their income, they will not pay tax. The big brothels that cater for Thai only will switch from paying military/police to paying as little tax as possible. Shifting deckchairs on the Titanic as its sinking comes to mind.

it is about porn and sex toys. not sex workers. They would never pass laws for their sex workers because there are no sex workers in Thailand. Just ask Pattaya police. They check soi 6 and soi bukhao all the time and never find sex workers.

Tell the truth. Have you ever seen any policemen walking about Soi 6 or anywhere in Soi Bukhao just checking anything? The only time you will see police in any of these Soi's is if they are called to some disturbence, and after about 9pm it would have to be a really serious disturbence.

What about all the income they just gave away when they removed the 'tax' on visa arrivals for Indians and Chinese.

That move was a disgrace and must have cost billions.
