Training And Badges Given To Foreign Police Volunteers

On Thursday 26th July, the Foreign Police Volunteers’ weekly Thai language class took place on the second floor of Pattaya People Media Group office to teach over 30 volunteers more Thai to improve their communication ability with the Thai police officers while performing their duties together every day at Pattaya Police Station.

Additionally, the FPV will also be trained in First Aid, Thai legal knowledge and other skills that will enable them to provide more and qualified help to any foreigner coming to the Pattaya Police Station for various reasons.

Now there are 4 groups with a total of 50 Foreign Police Volunteers from 18 different countries, many with a background in law enforcement and the military from their home countries.

Another delight to the Foreign Police Volunteers project was accepting and introducing 2 first “women” volunteers, Khun Leah Miwako Gossack from Japan, and Khun Marije Wolsink from Holland. The two new FPV girls are now adding a touch of glamour to the highly qualified Foreign Police Volunteers.

IMHO it just seems a bit bizzare that these' farnags ' who are working

alongside the Thai police officers are only likely to be here on a visa :D

Does this mean that they can get some " special favours " if ever they

themselves are found in an awkward position - e.e. not having their

passport on them :o

Remember that story a few weeks back, where foreign TPVs engaged the "services" of some Uzbeki prostitutes, and then the police busted the girls ? (After that story, I'm sure the number of people volunteering to be TPVs must have jumped !).

Wonder if they'll have these girls pulling the same kind of "sting" operations ? :o

But my main question is, don't these people still require a work permit (and 1 year visa) to be TPVs ?

Remember that a few weeks after the Tsunami, Thailand told all the volunteers working for various organizations that they would have to have work permits, even though they were merely volunteering their time/effort/money/etc. The fact that they were volunteering meant that local Thais weren't being employed to do the same work.

So, does becoming a TPV gain you a WP and Visa ?

I dont know for sure but I would doubt it................ :D

I was also wondering what would be the limit of their authority

i.e. presumably they may be required at some time to deal directly

with Thai lawbreakers????

So I wonder how some of the ordinary Thai's would react if one of these

guys tried to order them around? :o I doubt they would have much respect

for a " farang " dressed up in a uniform

I respect your question, I do not respect the other posters here that question the need for a farang volunteer to help the tourists when they have a problem with the law here. . I read so much crap here on TV about the The Royal Thai Police. It makes me sick. It appears to me that they are the same people who have a grudge about the police

in any country. I believe most are lawbreakers in their home countries

and wish to rant about any police. Where would any society be without any law enforcement? It may not be the best here but it is a start.

The Thais are trying to improve their methods. Lets give them a break. Most of us know how to behave and have respect for other people. There is a small minority out there who would thrive on a weak police force. Support your local police. They are the only ones keeping

you from total chaos. Rant over, Chok Dee

I didn't see the thing on the TPV's taking down Uzbek prostitutes but it seems like things are getting tasty again.

Those with memories will recall the antics of one particular TPV who was involved in baiting katoeys in to robberies and was involved in taking down Jade House.

At the time a dossier of photographs names and addresses of TPV's was put together and circulated to interested parties and action was being considered.

Luckily for them they drew back from the brink that time. They may not be so lucky this time.

Howard - the two birds be stationed on Walking Street?

Once again you guys who post on this subject are not very well informed, or just don't care.

I've posted before on this (as my role as a very informed and longterm bar owner on Walking Str) and it actually pisses me off that people still post without researching the facts, only stupid remarks. The original TPV's (now FTPA's) have been around for many years and do an exceptional job on Walking Str (as attested to by many bar owners and merchants on Walking Str). The FPV's (Foreign Police Volunteers) are a creation of Niels Colov (which many of know as the biggest a-- licker in Pattaya, with a very checkered past if you are prepared to dig a little). These people work only at the Soi 9 Police Station, although they have been starting to get a bit of a bad reputation of wearing their uniforms around town and expecting 'certain services' shall we say. I have personally had to shoo them away with the understanding that I'd report them to the Police Chief if I heard of it happening again.

So please guys research your facts before posting and blame the correct organisation (or people) if there is to be a discussion.

what is it about these volunteers that makes them so unpopular ?

what do they do or dont do that rankles so much?

we dont have them in hua hin ( we are all far too law abiding here !! ) so i have no experience of them , but i cant see any reason not to have them , if , as they are supposed to , they just act as go betweens for the regular police and the foreigners.

the only problems i can see is when you get wannabees in a uniform , they often undergo a personality metamorphosis and change from being kevin the council parking warden fired from his job in blighty to dirty harry the uniformed proto - cop in pattaya.

Thanks SJ for reminding those that seem to have a mind-erase between the quarterly farang volunteer police bashing threads.

Some post the same narrow-minded questions, rehash the same dubious 'facts' or quote the same anecdotal assumptions each time. All you have to do to obtain all the answers you seek is to visit each group at their respective locations and ask the volunteers personally. Soi 9 and Beach or top-end of Walking Street, you know where they are.

Is that too hard? And if you come back with some assertion that you haven't the time or interest to ask the volunteers directly, why are you posting the same hateful stuff every two or three months?
