Why do people carry knives? The last thing I would ever do is go out with a knife in my pocket, it just doesn't enter my head to do so.  Alcohol + knives (or guns) + testosterone = trouble.

Don't be so stupid.  I've lived between both countries for 22 years and never carried any sort of weapon.

  • FAFO....   Aussies need to understand that America is a violent country.  Everyone I know back there is packing some kind of heat when they go out.   Such is life....and alcohol is

A hard man doesn’t need a knife if your brought up to take care of yourself, it’s mainly the immigrant’s who carry and use knives in a knife fight your guaranteed to be cut if you win or lose, in the old days we didn’t need knives

Civilised men never start fights.

Only low life scum think that violence is a solution to their problems.

Where in the article or elsewhere in this thread are Poms (Brits) mentioned?

In which case, why even mention this?

The overcrowded prison area for foreigners at the Bangkok Hilton is now about to become even more overcrowded. Being fat he will probably have great difficulty squeezing into the half a metre-wide space to sleep in for the next 10-15 years. He's going to feel miserable.

The 'hard man' has ruined the lives of the aussie's famliy and ruined his own life - for what?

Perhaps because the brain has not evolved.

In a tragic incident in Krabi, Thailand, an American man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an Australian man to death following a drunken altercation.

Shortly after 2:00 AM on July 22, Lt. Wichote Meepop, Deputy Inspector of Ao Nang Police Station, received a distress call about a brawl near Noppharat Thara Beach, opposite the Razorback Conch Sculpture.

Officers soon arrived to find Mr. Liam Michael Ross, a 35-year-old Australian national, gravely injured with stab wounds to his abdomen, leg, and arm.

Despite prompt medical attention and being transferred from Wattana Hospital in Ao Nang to Krabi Hospital, Mr. Ross succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old American Randall Owen Johnson, was apprehended at the scene. Still under the influence of alcohol, he was in possession of a folding knife and did not attempt to flee.

He was taken to Ao Nang Police Station, where detailed questioning will take place with legal and linguistic assistance.

Eyewitnesses revealed that both men had been drinking at a nearby restaurant before the incident. Their paths crossed again as Mr. Ross walked back to his hotel, leading to a confrontation.

What started as a verbal spat quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which Mr. Johnson allegedly drew a knife and inflicted multiple stab wounds on Mr. Ross.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the two men were strangers who may have had a disagreement at the restaurant. However, further inquiries are needed to determine the precise motive and sequence of events leading to the fatal encounter.

The ratio of murders, fights, car crashes, general illegal activities caused by visitors to Thailand vs visitors to say Singapore, Malaysia etc per 100,000 is astronomical. Why does Thailand continue to attract such people is volumes?

No sympathy for the American guy using a knife  on some one and with  alcohol involved causing the death of the other person involved 😳

A extension to his holiday in Thailand will give him time to

reflect on his actions 😱

I think the dead man is unable to learn any more of life's lessons and the man who killed him will be in jail for a ling time, maybe for the rest of his life.

Senseless violence fueled by alcohol.

Absolute nonsense.  You're part of the problem, just like the Texan.  It's a very serious crime in the UK to be carrying a knife.

To take take a knife out with you means your aggressive thoughts are ready for some action, and is a cowardly way to win a fight whoever starts the argument.

The world is much more violent these days than it ever was

Such is life....and alcohol is to blame.  Best if they had some Green.

I agree that alcohol is the major culprit.

I do disagree that individual Americans are any more violent than any other nationality.  I and all my U.S. friends do not carry knives or guns.  Not sure what Americans you hang around.

I do concede (and lament) that the U.S. has too many guns and should regulate their availability.

A disagreement of a couple of drunken knuckleheads over who was tougher. Unfortunately one of the impaired drunks lost his life and the other is off to the Big House over a pair of tough guy flared egos,

Two lives ruined because one guy carried a knife, like you recommend.

I hope you don't carry a knife here, I would deport you and lifetime ban your return.
