Israeli fans violently attacked after Amsterdam soccer match
Dutch leader denounces ‘Jew hunt in the streets of Amsterdam’ 'The days of chasing Jews down European city streets should remain in the dark annals of history,' the Israeli embassy in Washington said of the violence. Amsterdam police reported on Friday that five individuals were hospitalized and 62 people were detained. The events unfolded after a soccer match, with rioters actively seeking out Israeli fans in what authorities described as systematic attacks. This incident has sparked condemnation from both Dutch and Israeli leaders, as well as Jewish organizations worldwide, with Israel’s foreign minister undertaking an urgent diplomatic mission to the Netherlands. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock reacted with shock, calling the incident “awful and deeply shameful for us in Europe.” She stated on X, “The outbreak of such violence against Jews breaks all boundaries. There is no justification for this.” Baerbock emphasized that Jewish people must be able to feel secure in Europe, a sentiment shared by other international officials. The United Nations also weighed in, with spokesperson Jeremy Laurence from the UN human rights office describing the reports as deeply troubling. He emphasized, “Nobody, nobody should be subjected to discrimination or violence on the basis of their national, religious, ethnic or other origin.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed similar sentiments, condemning the attacks as “unacceptable.” In her message on X, she stated, “Antisemitism has absolutely no place in Europe. And we are determined to fight all forms of hatred.” This incident reflects an ongoing global concern over the safety of Jewish communities, particularly in the context of sporting events involving Israeli teams, as these matches have increasingly become a focal point for antisemitic violence amid escalating Middle Eastern tensions. As the investigation progresses, the world will be closely watching how Dutch authorities address this latest disturbing incident. Based on a report by BBC | AP | X 2024-11-09 -

Why Donald Trump Could be a Major Challenge for the British Government
I reply for you. I checked the trade deals with NZ and UK had to give more access to agricultural imports than the EU, in exchange for the same access for its products than the EU. 😁 It confirms my initial claim. https://borderlex.net/2022/07/13/new-zealand-eu-and-uk-ftas-herald-healthy-new-competition-for-good-deals/ https://www.nfuonline.com/updates-and-information/uk-new-zealand-trade-deal-how-does-this-compare-to-the-eu-deal/ -

Trump's turn to face the age question . . . .
If Trump comes across as "quite Barmy", what does that say about the millions who voted for him? I used to think of America as the land of high tech and cutting edge innovation and, above all, well educated and reasonably intelligent people. Clearly my thinking is in need of adjustment. -

Cheese
Dear CallumWK: "to me, and most other people, French cheeses are about the best in the world" With respect, I should tread very Caerphilly on this one, sir. British cheeses have for centuries 'graced' the tables of many a true Englishman from a Stinking Bishop to a Lincolnshire Poacher. I am forced to accept that Stilton does not come from Stilton but are you sure that you are British? Does the Monty Python Cheese Shop sketch mean nothing to you? Are you not a fan of Wallace and Gromit? You like French cheeses? Well, chacun a son goo. I may not be able to write accents, but when I say 'goo', I mean 'goo'! Enjoy nibbling your brie, sir. I'll get down to some serious eating and go for the full Stilton. From one turophile to another, whatever it is, enjoy it, sir (as long as it's genuinely cheesy) -

Why Donald Trump Could be a Major Challenge for the British Government
Oh come on, this is just left wing student politic cliches. You would do well to research some history of the UK within the EU; the die was cast to our second class membership back in 1970 when the Fisheries Minister, Geoffrey Rippon, told Prime Minister, Ted Heath, “if we want to join the EEC (as it was then known) on the terms stated by General de Gaulle, we will have to sacrifice Britain’s fishermen” This is exactly what the treacherous Heath did, and with that one submissive act, set the tone for how the UK has been treated by the EU ever since; it also resulted in our fishing industry, that was the largest in all of Europe, being completely decimated, leaving huge unemployment and poverty in towns like Hull and Grimsby, the latter once being the largest fishing port in the world. Heath was also made aware of the “Werner” report in 1970, which set out the EEC’s plans for monetary union and a federal state; he deliberately kept this information from the British public, who subsequently voted to join a “common market” unaware of the political and monetary aspirations of the EEC. The EU has never treated the UK equally despite us always having been a nett contributor; even at the end, they refused to grant a few lame concessions to Cameron, concessions that would have prevented the referendum. I look on cheerfully as the whole edifice is starting to implode ….. oh Mutti, look what you’ve done. apologies, it’s slightly off topic, but you brought the EU into the conversation. -

Why Kamala Harris Lost: The Challenges of a Complex Campaign
So just the old generic “tax cut for the rich” zero-sum game nonsense. Tump’s last tax cuts benefited abot 95% of taxpayers, tax revenue went up, and the share the top 10% paid went ip -1%.
