How does an agency process your extension of stay @ Immigration ?

Featured Replies

You entered Thailand with a visa exempt passport, and before your 30 days is up you decide to extend your @ Immigration.

Most people go to the Immigration Department to have their extension done, but some people pay the agency to do it.

How does the agency do it ?  I'm curious because I'm pretty sure the person seeking extension has to be there.

Does the agency pay the Immigration Officer for the convenience ?

What type of extension are you asking about.

If 30 day extension the agent can do that without you.

OR are you asking about obtaining a non O retirement and subsequent 12 month extension.

BTW: visa exempt entry currently provides 60 day stamp

they have "connections" with some immigration offices>

Approval of conversion from visa exempt/tourist visa to non o & extension's is Always up to the immigration official
person Does NOT have to be there ( except Jomtien)  afaik

example , out of the 22-30,000 some agents charge in phuket for extensions, no baht in Bank
1, 900 goes for the extension, 2-5,000 goes to the agent, remainder goes to .....

It's the 30-day extension.

I'm referring to the 30-day extension.

I understand agent charges 500 baht.  Of course you have to pay 1,900 baht to the Immigration, separately.

Yes.

In fact some agents even do a pick up drop off service.

Which immigration office.

If you do it yourself you need a TM7, photo and some basic photocopies of pp and most likely TM30+ 1900b

Jomtien.

So do the rules allow an agent to represent you ?  That really is my question.

Jomitien has their own rules.

Eg for 12 months extensions processed at Jomitien the agent will have you tag along to immigration.

Google "Maneerat" located Soi 13/2.

They will advise you on phone or Line cost and procedure for 30 day extension to VE stamp entry.

The rules say that you have to apply in person unless the immigration officer waives that requirement. Under normal circumstances, they might do that if you're in hospital and a representative of the hospital goes to immigration to apply on your behalf. Or someone could entice them, such as an agent.

face recognition photo requirement means attendance is required, although I have seen posts here claiming not always so.

Not sure if @ThaiVisaCentre still a member.

Can advise better than me

My bad, meant 1 year extension, maybe also to convert 30 day to Non O.

A standard 30 day extension no issue for attendance..

For 12 months extension retirement most agents send up country.

No need to attend.

Some agents in Jomitien deal with that office and you need to attend for the very point you outlined.

At Jomtien Immigration you have to "tag along" with the agent (for a one-year extension of stay) merely for the purpose of having your photograph taken (by the agent!) somewhere in the Immigration Building. (My experience during the past 3 years.)

An agent can legitimately apply for the 30 day extension on your behalf because no financial proof is required, just copies of your passport.

Even for 1 year extensions where financial proof is required, in the case of a person with disabilities or handicapped persons, a representative can legitimately apply on their behalf provided they meet the financial requirements.
