In a courageous act, retired maritime police officer Thawatchai Klinhom saved a distressed mother and her three-month-old baby from the Chao Phraya River. The mother, initially claiming an accidental slip, later confessed to jumping in due to severe stress over her child's developmental delays.

The incident occurred around 7:50 pm near the Samut Prakan provincial hall embankment. Rescue teams from Samut Prakan Municipality and Ruam Kuson Foundation rushed to the scene following reports of a woman and a baby in the river. Upon their arrival, they found both mother and child safe but clearly shaken.

Thawatchai Klinhom, 65, was mid-exercise when he spotted the mother, a Myanmar national, holding what he initially thought was a doll. Realising the gravity of the situation, he jumped into the river to rescue them. Despite her resistance and a near-debilitating kick to the face, Thawatchai succeeded in bringing them to safety.

The mother, identified as Sukanya Sukklin, later revealed her true intentions to the rescue officer. Overwhelmed by sleepless nights worrying about her baby's slow development, she felt compelled to take drastic action. She clarified that there had been no conflict with her partner, who was searching for them, unaware of their whereabouts.

Emergency responders promptly transported the mother and her baby to Samut Prakan Hospital for medical evaluation. The baby was found wrapped in a blanket to stave off the cold after being in the water, reported Khaosod.

Thawatchai reflected on the chaotic rescue, emphasising the critical moment he realised the 'doll' was, in fact, a baby. "I saw the baby sink twice," he recounted. "I shouted for help because I was exhausted, but we managed to save both of them."

This daring rescue highlights the bravery and quick thinking of citizens like Thawatchai, whose heroic actions undoubtedly prevented a tragic outcome.

Very well done kh Thawatchai - very courageous.  :wai:

Sadly, post-natal depression can be a killer.

I hope the mother and child get the help they obviously need.

At 3 months old, how far did she think it would develop at that age ? Maybe the father could help her more with the sleepless night now.

Yeh from her partner I hope, not just from medical help.

Great Job! Just hope they can fix it, so she is not one of those together with a useless Lao Khao drinking husband who is out with his friends all the time.

The father may have disappeared and she may have been alone?

Err.. literacy not literature. Although, the way some articles are written , literature could also be accurate.😉

The husband needs to talk to the wife and help with their baby,  also her mental state needs the proper help from a doctor.

Khun Thawatchai  needs to go home and sit down to a nice dinner with his wife and she will ask him why his exercise took so long ....  then he can explain what a good man he is.

does the husband work ?   we don't know ...   does he drink Lao Khao ?   we don't know ..
