Chuan Leekpai, former leader of the Democrat Party and a current Party-List Democrat MP, has expressed firm opposition to the idea of his party joining a coalition government with the ruling Pheu Thai Party.

He emphasized that his stance is based on principles, not personal animosity, citing his campaign efforts against the Pheu Thai Party. Chuan stated that Pheu Thai’s selective development policy, particularly its neglect of the Southern provinces, is a major reason for his opposition.

He pointed out that his campaign contributed to Pheu Thai’s failure to secure MPs in the South, despite their success elsewhere. Supporting Pheu Thai now would betray the voters’ trust, he argued. Chuan also dismissed rumors of possible expulsion from the party, stating that no actions have been taken against him, and the issue of expulsion has not been raised.

Yeah, he is 100% right. As another aspect of the dealings Pheu Thai does, it goes totally against the voters will and voice. The Democrats only got 25 seats in the election 2023, and have a totally different ideology. But, there once was a party that got 152 seats, but it´s gone now.

I guess the remaining DEMs have two choices.

Go down and nobody remembers them anymore.

Or get on the trough for a while and then go down and sure nobody wants them anymore.

He is a Southern political representative and may be justified to oppose the Pheu Thai lack of interest in that region. Can't argue with that.

Only honest PM the country has had.  In my time here, at least

He does have a valid point.

Thaksin haters have selective memory

His government tenure was riddled with so many corruption scandals that it collapsed

His time and that of his party has long gone.

I can well remember how the democrat party denied that they would join the military coup government. After the so called election, they joined with Prayuth's coalition government

Since 1997 the democrats have lost voters and votes with almost every election.

The Democrats have never been able to win an election and it's clear they deserve their fate. A party with less integrity and poorer judgment would be hard to find (oh, wait, the Pheu Thai)

Good true! Reality: Not true!

Theya re as relevant today as they have ever been. They rarely win elections, but they tip governments.
They funded the anti Thaksin movement. The deep pockets behind it all.
Sondhi leading up to the 06 coup
Suthep & PAD, the yellows,  leading up to the 2014 coup.
They create enough instability,  then the greens step in.

Currently they are the money behind the ultroyalists/ultra monarchists, opposing the reform movements of the last couple years, and of course trying to blame it all on evil outsiders seeking to destabilize the kingdom.

As for Mr Chuan, one should remember his antics as PM  in the post Kader Fire investigation. He either thought he was going to get a big payday from those evil US companies, or blame it on them, back in the globalization yelping days. However, Shock, Gasp, Horror,  it was  revealed that Disney & Mattel did not own Kader. In fact a Thai conglomerate; CP group did. A member of which was in his very own governing cabinet. Woops. Legend has it, Thai 's from the Los Angeles, & UCLA, were critical in untangling just who owned Kader Toy Factory.
