I use Nam's taxi for 1200 in a luxury Camry. Is 1000 for smaller car which is great deal when they meet you at the gate and drop you at your door

Well the time you paid the bus ticket, waited to board the bus etc and 3:hours journey then arrive at the bus station, unload your bags then wait for a bolt etc etc

You saved how much??

  • Who said the OP is on a holiday, and where did he say he couldn't afford a taxi?   He asked a sincere question, if there are songthaews available, to which the answer is yes

  • Motorbike taxi's are also there.  Last time I took one to my hotel.  I offered 100 baht, she declined, "120, because you're fat".  Fair enough.

  • At the station exit there are shared songthaews that take you to your hotel for 50 baht.

OP asked about travelling from Ekkamai, not the airport.

A bit chicken and egg...certainly no reason to be at Ekamai unless catching the bus. All a bit of a drag when older and perhaps encumbered by a suitcase.

Yes I can't see why someone especially if two people can't or won't just pay extra for a car service instead of the bus

Unless your a backpacker etc ,
