Popular Post Georgealbert Posted September 8, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2024 Picture from responders A 47-year-old man driving a pickup truck lost control and crashed into a drainage ditch after being honked at by a motorcycle while trying to overtake on a slippery road. The accident occurred on the evening of 8 September, at around 20:15. Pol. Lt. Jaroon Duangwiangkham, an investigator from Nong Prue Police Station, received a report of a vehicle that had skidded off the road and crashed into a drainage ditch near Thung Klom Tan Man Road, Village 8, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. Police and rescue teams from Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a black Isuzu pickup truck with license plate from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya in a drainage ditch near Chak Nok Reservoir. The vehicle had fallen approximately 5 metres from the road, sustaining extensive damage. The driver, identified as Mr. Samai, 47, suffered minor injuries. Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before calling in a large crane to retrieve the vehicle. Mr. Samai explained that he had been driving out of Thung Klom Tan Man Soi 10, along a road near Chak Nok Reservoir. As he approached a three-way intersection, he turned right, only to encounter a motorcycle coming straight towards him, honking aggressively. Startled, he attempted to accelerate and overtake the motorcycle, but the wet, slippery road caused him and his truck to spin out of control. The vehicle careened off the road, hitting a guardrail before plunging into the drainage ditch. Police recorded the incident and noted that if any government property was damaged, Mr. Samai would be held responsible for compensating the authorities. -- 2024-09-09 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe 1 3
Popular Post jacko45k Posted September 8, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2024 So when a vehicle is coming straight for you, you accelerate???? 3 1 1
ikke1959 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 It was not the honking but the reaction of the car driver...
Popular Post Gottfrid Posted September 8, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2024 First, how can you overtake something that comes straight towards you? if that were the case, the biker would have gone in the opposite direction which makes overtake an impossibility. If the biker came at him from behind, an overtake will also be impossible. We have to assume the motorbike was in front of him and he was the one trying to overtake and lost control or that the motorbike came from behind, and he accelerated and lost control. Both will be the fault of the pick up driver. Also, if a person is so easily startled that honking of a horn can make him lose control, then he has nothing to do on the road. Complete lunatic! 1 4 1 1

gargamon Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I do hope there's CCTV of this. Sounds like the pickup driver is making things up.

steven100 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 oh dear Georgealbert .... I've honked at a few drivers but the never crashed afterwards. I hope everyone is ok from the accident. It sounds like he was speeding Georgealbert. Many nasty drivers here in Thailand. 1 1

The motor bike was coming towards him and bibbed his horn to warn him. (I do it all the time when dingbats just pull out.) I would think that he accelerated to go round the bike as it sped towards him. 3 hours ago, Georgealbert said: As he approached a three-way intersection, he turned right, only to encounter a motorcycle coming straight towards him, honking aggressively 2 1

Not sure how when the motorcycle is coming straight at you that you accelerate to overtake the same motorcycle. The explanation makes no sense but thats kinda typical here. Any excuse to shift the blame somewhere else is better than none. I like that the police threw in the bit about him having to pay for damage to govt property. 3

Popular Post Phantom57 Posted September 9, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 9, 2024 My thoughts, the car was approaching a T intersection ( 3 way intersection) along the vertical part of the “T” wanting to turn right. The bike was travelling straight through the T from left to right. He beeped the car to tell the car to hold to avoid a collision. After the bike had passed, the angry car driver then turned right to chase down the bike and overtake him and spun off. 1 3
spidermike007 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Most educated drivers with a skill set, when faced with a obstacle of any sort tend to slow down and try to determine a solution to the issue. Why anyone would speed up on a slippery surface is anyone's guess. It sounds like this goon is intellectually challenged, and possesses very poor driving skills. 1 1

Agreed... something is different with the mentality of many on the Thai roads when it comes to the simple application of caution. ... There seems to be some underlying resistance to braking, which in so many of these incidents is taken as a last resort when all other possibilities have been ruled out... Just look at cars approaching a pedestrian crossing - its long been said that 'drivers will speed up' to prevent a pedestrian from crossing, though in reality, the cars will simply not brake... and if you cross they will leave the braking to the last possible moment. In this example: I wonder if there was a bike at all... If there was a bike, was it or the pickup on the wrong side of the road... I've also seen drivers of other vehicles get angry at another driver, they then show their anger by driving in the most erratic fashion... I wonder if the pickup got angry and drove in this highly erratic manner and overcooked it. 2

I figured most people would have understood from the article... that the translation is not the best (as is usual).... and the pickup driver actually meant 'avoid' (as in swerve to pass / avoid / go around the oncoming Motorcycle)... ... Though, more likely, the driver who ended up in a ditch is lying, attempting to save face for his cr*ppy and dangerous driving... I wonder if he was tested for booze and drugs. 1

I'd be furious IF in the process of having to avoid a psycho-motorcyclist or another vehicle travelling the wrong way down the road (i.e. avoiding a head on collision) that I swerve and cause damage to government property, the authorities are going to come after me for the costs of damage. Dash-Cams - Just another reason to have them.

Sounds like he pulled out and didn't see the bike. The bike honked his horn and the pickup driver floored it instead of stopping where he was. Perhaps if he had stopped, the bike may have hit him. Either way, pickup driver's fault. 2 1

They are so immature that a horn honk can provoke them into anger, recklessness and dangerous behaviour.

It is not a good junction, many people dont realise that vehichles travelling along Tungklom Talman have right of way when turning right there, the road approaching from the left has a solid white line meaning vehicles (ie: the motorcycle) should stop there. 1
