Is it worth having one short sighted eye corrected?

Why? Seems lots of top hospitals and a few clinics offering state of art. I'm considering this. I'm sick of wearing glasses.

Not about Lasik, but I went from glasses to contact lenses years ago.  Found myself getting poked in the eye a lot because I was so used to having the protection of glasses.  Walking through brush, looking up while trimming the shrubs, that kind of thing.

I was born short sighted, had been wearing glasses since age 7. I recently had one eye operated on for cataracts. The lens gave me perfect distance vision, can't see up close. I have grown quite accus

  • You need to think ahead to when you are older and loss of accommodation sets in.   What gives ideal vision now, won't then - you'll be glad of that one short-sighted eye   Also if

  • OK now I follow you.   Yes, for most people it would work and in fact that is what I did 25 years ago (actually in my case, myopia was so severe I had to correct both eyes but left one eye u

Well, a visit to an ophthalmologist is an option or even necessary requirement.

I'm not so good in long distance diagnosis as others. So let your eyes checked. Cataract?

My personal story in simple words: years ago I had to undergo an eye operation and got 2 new lenses. One eye is good for reading, the other for "far away" sight.

However, the difference in dioptries was not big. This works perfectly for me. Not for everyone, which will be confirmed by your "eye-doctor". Just think about it

Get an opinion from an opthamologist, possibly 2.  Had very cataracts in both eyes simultaneously (legally blind) had lens replaced by a brilliant surgeon.  Now vision better than 30 years ago.  This was done in UK at Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh.

In general I would say that having ANY unnecessary operation carried out on any part of your anatomy is crazy.

Try the alternatives first!

That's on a case by case basis. I have not elected radical treatment for my Prostate cancer diagnosed in 2018, but I had an early Cholecystectomy for my Gallstones. Two of the best decision I have ever made.

I'm 54 and I've not noticed any change in my shortsightedness, I've had it for 30 years, when might it lessen?

Soon.

Presbyopia usually starts end forties, many people won't notice anything until about your age (and then it usually still takes several years until they admit they need reading glasses).

For the replacement lenses (2 eyes)/cataract surgery, (Phaco+multifocal/EDOF) in Bkk Hospital Pattaya,I have already followed this subject like 15 years ago, it was already 200,000 Baht and already Dr Somchai the "star" surgeon, they even had an own website with a testimonial of an american in video...Is he still the best in this service at his age (I guess he must be around 60 years old or older) ?

I' ve heard about a female ophtalmologist Dr Boonyaporn at the same hopital making the same surgery, any experience lately ?

Maybe there are other ophtalmologists very capable too for this  in the same hospital Bkk-Pattaya ?

By the way, I know the price is now 200,000+pre-operative examination including lens measurement about 3,000-4,000 THB+Chest x-ray =  1,400 THB. , EKG ( electrocardiogram)= 1,000 THB+ follow-up+home medication...I would say all in all about 210,000 B

Anybody heard about a cheaper price or some kind of promotion for exactly the same work and lenses (trifocal/EDOF) ?
