Joe Manchin seems to think Kamala Harris is just as much a threat as Donald Trump

“Senator Joe Manchin is retiring at the end of his term, but that won’t stop him from being a Democratic Party pooper all the way through the November election.

On Tuesday, following Vice President Kamala Harris’s announcement that she would do away with the filibuster in order to pass federal abortion protections, Manchin said this move was a step too far and that he’d rescind his endorsement of Harris for president”.

Dear riclag,

I have read your erudite and, frankly, mind-blowing post and have one burning question; what does lmop mean? You see, I did google it and came up with what you see below and I gotta admit that I'm totally confused!

If it was LMOP, I would certainly suggest that the methane acronym is appropriate.
However, I do believe that what he is saying is, IMOP :- In My Own Opinion.
Possibly a way of not providing any substantiation.

Ah, of course. Thanks for clarifying even though it crushed my hope of finding anything useful in that post.

harris  & dem democracy and my countries legislatures history is being

put at risk by this radical wanna be .

“Manchin has devoted his last several years to protecting the filibuster, which prevents most measures from proceeding to a vote if they cannot clear a procedural hurdle with 60 votes. He has previously described it as crucial to democracy and said if Democrats successfully did away with it, it would be "the saddest day in the history of the United States of America."

I await your useful posts in the near future. So far they seem to lack any comments on the topic.

While she may have that 'power' now - say casting the deciding vote as President of the Senate were Schumer et al to bring it to the floor, she most certainly would not have that ability if/when she might be elected President of the United States.

I can't see politicians of either party voting to end it as they all know that they may want to use it in the future.

It is a safe guard , the 60 vote hurdle , it protects the citizens from radical laws & policy agendas of a party in control .

Another Dem Senator turned Independent says…

“Sen. Sinema lambastes Harris over call to scrap abortion filibuster: 'Absolutely terrible, shortsighted idea”

If Kamala Harris becomes president she would enact the most extreme pro Abortion laws for sure.

Worse still, though, would be her support to continue the war in Ukraine. The US needs to avoid a hot war with Russia, which is  dangerously close.

So another measure to limit democracy, just like the electoral college.

Swing voters , Independents.

Need to be aware, she is what she is,

a Social justice warrior.

“To this point, Harris’s campaign is going better than most Democrats dared to hope. But if there is one thing that could sour the Democratic ticket’s good vibes, it is a smear campaign that tars her as a radical. The future of our republic may therefore hinge on how well Harris parries that attack”.

A social justice warrior flip flopper who has no qualms to throw all her social justice principles overboard if she thinks it will get her votes.

The 'Hobson's choice ' open to American voters is a sad indication of the low bar currently required to run for President of the United States.

The probolem that American voters have is

Which do you choose

A President that to many is not likeable but at least has policies and is telling people what he will do.  He has a business background and has made things happen in the real world, making a lot of people rich.   Is known to be hated by other countries because he will not put up with their crap.

OR

The junior member of the GAFF machine.  A lady with no policies.  That can not talk without having a script and teleprompter.  She will not be available to the press, and every time she meets a head of state, she laughs and giggles and gets nothing done.  She has never had to build anything her staff leave her because of her working style.   Screwed up the border

The MAGA  and GOP is going to support TRUMP.

The Liberal left and black vote is starting to falter and may not come out.

The question then becomes who do the independents see as their best chance to get the country sorted out/.

The election boils down to how brainwashed the population has become by the Democrat-Marxist state media. If they believe the propaganda of "Morning Joe" and "The View", then Comrade Kamala may win.  Even the many Far Left Progressive expats here must surely have seen through Comrade's speech about her economic plan to see that there's nothing there. Comrade will only be President by name. Obama & his people will run the country as she is clueless. She's a Primary school teacher at best.

Time is not the democrats friend right now. Still alot of time left, still alot of time that kamala has to hide

Nobody cares what Joe manchin says. His 15 minutes of fame was when he was the blocking vote in the senate. He's just trying to get 16 minutes instead of 15.

A "safe-guard"? That protects citizens, who voted for the majority party?

How many votes have similar "safe-guards"? (Juries I guess.)

Supreme Court nominees? middle-school class president? school board initiatives? Supreme Court decisions?

If this is such a good thing why doesn't the House of Representatives have such a "safe-guard"?

Silliest rule ever, well after that whole three-fifths thing, and the electoral college.

I really do not see the point on posting political threads on a forum such as AN. Don't you 'fellas' get enough of it from the News Outlets proper? Left triggers Right, then Right triggers Left (vice versa if you wish) Harris & Trump not enough so start on Manchin?! Not a lot of use either.

The important stuff hardly gets a mention.

Finally, something on which I agree with Joe Manchin.

If you want "important stuff" you are IMO in the wrong place. What did you expect on an anonymous forum?

I come on here for the entertainment.

Seriously?

You might want to read up on the function of a higher house in politics.

Yes, you're right.  She's not a threat because of any particular policy (she has none), but because she is a really nasty human being.  I recall her vicious attack on Judge Kavanaugh when she was in the Senate   - that was  the crucial moment when one could see how empty, but how dangerous, this mendacious woman was.

Most politicians are mendacious, but even the most menial (someone like Nadler or Schiff etc) have SOME redeeming quality, somewhere.  Not so Mrs Harris.

I have to disagree with Schiff. I thought he was a diabolical human being long before I ever heard of Harris. Pelosi is debatable.

The 'important stuff', IMO is how policies affect one's income, prices etc. You come here for entertainment??? You can't think of better places or do you get pleasure out of 'winding eachother up". I come here for news about immigration and the various experiences from other expats and other things Thai that might affect expats.
