Nato on Toast.

89 replies, and no one has mentioned Nato.

Am I the only one who eats this?

It's like beans on toast, but healthy.

Hmmmm - not sure about that.

Natto is a traditional fermented soy food also known as Itohiki-natto. It originated in the northern part of Japan about 1000 years ago. It is one of the few products in which bacteria predominate during fermentation. Properly prepared natto has a slimy appearance, sweet taste, and a characteristic aroma.

One source who recently tasted natto for the first time described it as initially nutty followed by a sharp funk—almost like extremely ripe blue cheese.

Each to their own but I think I'll stick with:-

I was confused about Nato on toast so I did a search and it seems as though it is spelled Natto, which is Japanese food.

Perhaps that is why nobody has mentioned it before.

Sorry typo. But not sure what Japanese food has to do with it.

No problem about the typo.

I had no idea what it was until I did a search and I came up with this link.

From the link I found this.

Well, if you want something healthy and savoury and you exclude Vegemite then you are not serious. Did you know that Vegemite is made from the left-over yeast  after the beer is brewed at the breweries .you couldn't get anything more healthy than that !! In Australia mothers put it on babies dummies to pacify them.

First saw mention of "dummies" in a mailing list.  I had to ask.  In America we call these pacifiers.

Where from in Thailand?

In Pattaya. Makro in the frozen section, Villa in the cooler. Central may have it too.

In Bangkok. Fuji, Max Value, Markro, Villa, etc. It's not rare, many different brands available. Especially at Fuji.

Just my memory playing tricks, pure wishful thinking !

There is a campaign in the UK to bring back Toast Toppers. Heinz have no immediate plans but are taking notice of the FB group. Heinz have stated 'never say never'.

Fingers crossed. Just surprised one of the supermarkets haven't come up with their 'own brand' version.

Make yourself a ham sammich. Get me one while your at it, please. I take mine on toast.

You could always try some British Royal Navy food.

A cheesy, hammy eggy.

Cheesy Hammy Eggy is a Royal Navy favourite and you can easily make it at home! #ArmedForcesDay
1. Gather your ingredients: Bread, sliced ham, grated cheese, an egg and some butter.
2. Toast the bread on both sides and butter. Place one slice of ham on the slice of toast and cover with a thick layer of grated cheese.
3. Toast under the grill until the cheese is brown and melted.
4. While the cheese and toast are grilling, cook an egg to serve on top.
5. Eat your Cheesy Hammy Eggy.
6. Start learning some of the other ways of preparing this staple naval food!

Generally i have jam on toast for breakfast, sometimes fancy something savoury and healthy, any recommendations?

Not including cheese, marmite, Vegemite, peanut butter

If you look for healthy stuff you wouldn't eat toasted bread and eat processed cheese or any other preserved processed stuff.

Can't beat good old Vegemite, alternatively if you want something lighter, go for an Avo

I use St. Dalfour jellies. A good selection you can find in Lotus, Tops and other places here. No added sugar or additives. Just fruit and fruit juice. On 12 grain or whole grain bread.
