according to this guy, kidnappings only happen in a few parts of southern philippines?

I hope that he comes through this without further trauma, but Zamboanga is in the area where foreigners are regularly advised not to visit.

 

To say that this is reflective of the Philippines overall is akin to saying Hat Yai at the height of its troubles was representative of Thailand in general.

"The Philippine National Police Regional Office 9 arrested the alleged mastermind behind the abduction of Mindanao-based American vlogger Elliot Eastman, whom one of the suspects believes may be dead. 

"In December, the PNP said one of the suspects claimed that Eastman died in the banca, and that the abductors threw his body into the sea."
