New visa exempt arrivals

My worry is what sort of treatment those snowbirds, such as me, who arrived in Sept/Oct, are going to get when they BBounce (after 30 day extension) and return for a 2nd VE in Dec/Jan.

Try skipping 30 day extension in Thailand. Just visit Vn and return. Just a little more $$ and time.

THAT may be the problem for harsh scrutiny? Maybe 60-day walk-in is not booked same way? Or they don't book at all.

Whether VE or VR has been deemed to have "stayed too many times" already - so what visa "in your country" is he referring to.?

still have not said if they let you in or not  you leave that part out---Why??

Can one apply for the E-Visa online anywhere rather than the place he/she has citizenship or residency status only?

Some visas you can - others you cannot.  A Tourist-Visa or DTV can be applied for at many "not passport/resident country" consulates, but not all; some Thai consulates don't let anyone but local-residents apply for any type of visa.

When they rolled out the METV, however, they restricted it to "passport/resident country only."   I have seen no indication that this policy has been changed.

yeah will do and maybe IO's database can then reflect a long history of my holidaying............maybe it already does hence why i've never been interrogated and/or denied entry.

cheers.

The problem is the computer only shows days-in-country and no specifics about beaches, temples and markets.

Good luck and honestly hoping there won't be any confrontation.

I was referring to my providing proof of Oz domicile/Thai holidays being noted on the IO database.

LOL pigs may fly!

Thx for your good luck wishes.

I was hoping to do the exact or near exact thing right after the New year.  But I would be sure I did NOT exceed a total of 180 days to avoid the mythical undocumented but sometimes enforced 6 month stay is too long without a long term visa and also to avoid any of the current or proposed tax implications if one is in country for more than 180 days in one year.

So somewhere along the line I guess after the first 60 days and 30 day extension I would not stay those entire 90 days but would exit say on day 87 to be safer.  Then I would expect that if I left and came back in on another 60 day visa exempt I would have no trouble getting in nor any trouble getting the 30 day extension if I wanted.

the 180 day magic number is within 1 calendar year (1 jan-31 dec).  good luck

@DrJack54Hey, I saw earlier that you can get 60 days VE, 30 days extension + 60 days visit thai wife; is this true? I was at the IO the other day and the woman said no - only 90 days. She said you have to leave and re-enter if you want to stay longer.

You can obtain a 30 day extension to visa exempt entry.

You can in addition obtain a 60 day extension "to visit Thai wife"

Don't know why the io told you otherwise.

Note: obtain the 30 day extension first followed by the 60 to visit wife.

My office told me I cannot get a 60 day extension to visit wife from a  60 day VE, they gave me 30 days and told me to do a border run to get a 60 day next time.

For info to others, that was at Ubon office....

I did ask a lot of 'why' questions, to no avail....🥴

So Ubon Ratchathani immigration not allowing the 60 day extension to visit wife.

Here is thread where ubonjoe points out that the 60 extension to visit Thai spouse is available from visa exempt entry.

https://aseannow.com/topic/1130123-re-60-day-extension-to-visit-your-wife/

Here is one of many posts from various members. This one from @Liquorice

30-Day Extension was a breeze for my American friend at Jomtien. Took about 1 hour.

He could also apply for a further 60-day extension to visit a Thai spouse on top of the 30-day extension.

Yes my error. Not Udon Thani.

Will edit my post..

Have never read a post from ubonjoe pointing out the 60 day extension to visa exempt not possible at UR surprising as that was where he lived.

Could always do the 30-days (tr) then the 60-days (wife), before.  The 60-days seems to have really rankled some IOs, and this seems like a reaction to that.  I wonder if that is why the rollout was delayed so long after the announcement.

The core question would be, "Why would the CARE if you stay longer, if legally done?"  Yet they are - still taking out their anger on those who got covid extensions.  The only answer I can come up with is agents / etc.

Correct, Joe personally advised me on anything 'visa' over many years, I have also never before been refused a 60 day at any time to visit wife, it seems UBON is going by the written 60+30 day thing with a visa exempt..

I will continue to work on it, if/when I get the opportunity...🥴

They told me to cross the border when the 30 day extension is up...🥴

This is a quote from ubonjoe.

The only reason he mentions CW as it was reply to CW specific question.

"Chaeng Wattana immigration has issued the 60 day extension of a tourist visa and visa exempt entry after the 30 day extension of them were issued.. More than one report about it.

The 2 extensions are not the same category is the reason they will issue them. The 60 day extension is issued due to being married to a Thai or the parent of one. A 30 day extension is issued for touristic purposes and the 60 day extension is issued to visit a family member that is Thai"

But, at UBON, they said "No", they understood my English, I was also with the wife, as she must be there for the 60, and to top it all, they still wanted all the paperwork to visit the wife for the 30.........😂

We were not amused, at the time..........☺️

Same here. I'm going to try the other Ubon office - near Sisaket- when the 30 day extension is almost up. I think I got this one from that office previously.

Could you let me know how you get on.........

PM's OK if this thread is finished.

No mention of having or not having a flight out within the 60 days.

This "cross the border"  advice smacks of  " agent fee's "

Maybe they could better understand your English when provided copy of the official regulation.

hold on, so you've got a Thai wife and you're still not allowed to stay there?

wow, I hope she was worth it

If you want to "stay" here with your Thai wife, there's a Non-O visa and 1-year extension available to facilitate that

What's in question here is the 60-day extension to "visit" your Thai wife. Looks like the Ubon Ratchathani immigration office has their own interpretation on that. Their suggestion to do a border run instead is quite hilarious, not least because that means that the Thai government loses 1,900 baht while the government of a neighboring country collects a visa fee.

Well there are two people in this thread reporting they had problems with Visa exempt, and yet both were allowed to enter Thailand so how big a problem really?

It's easy enough to say on here that it's no big deal.  Totally different when you are in that situation yourself.  I had a lot of my stuff in a rented room in Thailand so if I got denied on my re-entry it would have been a major problem.  So yes, even just the possibility, standing there in that moment, was borderline traumatic.  Not something I want to be put through again.

We have no idea what the "guidelines" are, is the problem.  Or, rather, Immigration's "trick" to maximize agent-assistance sales.

Yeah, I have had my own experience over the past few years arriving in Bangkok, like IOs at Arrival scrutinising my history in Thailand... Earlier this year, on the other hand, the IO at Departure seemed really disappointed when I said, I wouldn't be back anytime soon... Make up your mind, Thailand! With such mind games, other destinations (for my money) look more and more attractive... 😆
