One assumes you have checked in online and so you have a boarding pass. 
 

One also assumes that the removal of the need for a boarding pass is for the purposes of the immigration gates where one step is currently the scanning of the QR code on the boarding pass. 
 

If you haven’t checked in online then countries and airports that already have done away with check in counters require you to check in at a digital terminal and print baggage tags (and boarding pass if you want one). 
 

So you’ll likely have the option of digital or printed yourself. As has been the case in many airports for years - certainly every domestic airport in Australia for example and for some time in Changi and various other international airports. 
 

This is simply replacing the boarding pass for gate clearance. 
 

And presumably you are aware that if one is too challenged to have a digital boarding pass or printed one or got one at a check in counter that the flight crew have a listing of every passenger by seat number. 
 

It’s weird how a largely expat board seems to have no actual experience or exposure to air travel 🤷🏻‍♂️

This seems an entirely insurmountable problem and I’d suggest all airport immigration processes should be cleared with your company going forward to ensure their asinine system isn’t impacted 😁

Nevertheless, always remember to get the physical boarding card even if you don't use it. Depending on which type of immigration chap you bang into, they will ask on arrival to see the card.

 

Happened to me last year on a fast track gate on ARRIVALS at Swanpy airport. 

 

The agent waiting for me aftert a long walk near gate D5 (they don't pick you up direcly at the gate anymore) showed me the fast track gate and then just walked away.  The immigration chap in his glass cage was a bald grumpy fellow looking to see where he could make some trouble and asked for the boarding card of the flight. When I produced it, he seemed disappointed, but not to loose face, snootily scribbled on the card as if it was some big official task...all this to say always have your boarding card in paper and have it handy even on leaving the aircraft when comming to Thailand. Once they refused the digital version and were trying to make a fuss on arrivals at Bangkok airport.

Highly unlikely. The data in such systems is generally protected (zero knowledge encryption) and is also protected by government guidelines such as the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) in, erm, Europe.

If this Facial Recognition system comes from China (where else, considering this is Thailand), I admire your trust in the  CPC.    Not sure if they respect the EDPB.

What a colossal waste of time and money! This will only frustrate tourists and damage Thailand's reputation as a welcoming destination. It would be wiser to wait until the Thai economy recovers and operations are running smoothly before implementing such changes. These ill-conceived ideas should be put on hold until the situation stabilizes.

Correct. As other have pointed out,if it's not broken don't try to fix it.

 

Terminal 5 at LHR is notorious for computer meltdowns because British Airways would not upgrade their system.

When it happens travel chaos ensues.

 

Technology is great when it works ' seemlessly' but when it doesn't you must have a back up system ready to take over.

this is common in the states, works well.. just wish Thailand would get rid of those filthy finger print scanners at immigration.  Last time I had to use it, the guy in front of me was coughing into his hands... great way to spread disease.

Make sure you don't touch any door handles, money, railings, handrails, seats, light switches, ATM machines, lift buttons etc etc.

I wonder who came up with this flawed idea. boarding passes have information on them that benefit

both the passanger and the Flight attendants. Face redognition could help catch

the worlds criminals, but that does not help anyone with, seating on an aircraft.

I am skeptical of the accuracy of facial recognition.

I once posted a photo on Facebook of The Rolling Stones partying with the Chieftains.

Facial recognition identified Ron Wood of the Stones as my brother.

I usually fly Thai Air domestically and like you I check in online.  Sometimes I print out my boarding pass but many times I have it emailed to me and I only have it on my phone.  Not sure how this system will work for me but I guess I’ll find out next week when I fly from Chiang Rai to Bangkok since CR airport is on the list.
