For remodelling, repairs, DIY: Global House is worth the drive.

Featured Replies

For anyone doing home repairs or remodeling, or needing to buy tools,
here is a quick recommendation of Global House.

Many of my fellow expats are well aware of HomePro.
Yes, they have essential tools and products.

But quality is highly variable: some good, some poor, some very poor quality.
Service not great.
Web site confusing, distracting, and not helpful.

Some expats are aware of Thai Watsadu.

Caters to local tradesmen.
Far better selection of tools and materials than Home Pro.
Service okay.
Web site okay.
I like Thai Watsadu.

Recently I moved from a small, serviced apartment into a 3-bedroom house.
Need lots of little things and the tools to install those things.

I make the trip out to Global House on the South side of town.

Very happy with what I found there.

More focused on essential tools and supplies than Home Pro.
More careful service than Thai Watsadu.

As a man who does like to "putter" around the house, Global House is my new favorite.
I highly recommend it.

I used to use GobalHouse but prefer DoHome (on 11 - 88/8 Village No. 3, Umong Subdistrict, Mueang Lamphun District, Lamphun Province 51150), which is bigger with much more stock and choice.

Yes DoHome is awesome, and usually less expensive than the other home improvement superstores mentioned, depending on what you are buying.  But no one of them has it all, I still shop around.  And not only at the superstores, our local mom/pop hardware-materials shop often has just what we need.

In Udon Thani, HomePro has extended with their wholly-owned Mega Home under one big roof. HomePro was the least likely place I would do home improvement or DIY shopping before, with Global House, DoHome and Thai Watsadu being preferred. But this expanded/merged HomePro/Mega Home is pretty good.

Global House & Mega Home is preferred and closest and neither are ever crowded, though sometimes a hunting adventure takes us out to one of the others. Homepro, meh…rarely have anything unique except that whenever I go in a homepro there’s always weird white folks trying to get my attention, not in a friendly way, more like an insecure social impediment thing that their looking for some kind of validation.

Of course - when we need steel, cement, bricks, sand, roof tiles etc. delivered, we use the local builders merchants or specialist shops.

Thai Wasadu is our nearest superstore, so we tend to go there unless their options don't satisfy our needs.
