Why Do Older Expats Hate Younger Expats?

The video was just a continuous flow of BS and self delusion. Most of the older expats who have something going for them don't care about the younger expats. Why would or should they?  Good for him that he can find such great deals on a condo. What he misses is that what a younger person may want in a residence is not what an older person wants or needs. I do not need a communal BBQ area, or a party room. I do want proper concierge services including security. I  want to be in in an area close to some shops for convenience. He may not.Convenience and location comes at a price.  He might be willing to tolerate loud neighbours, but some people will not.

In respect to the younger expats referred to and their "wealth", most of them haven't got a pot to p into. Digital nomad is just another term for a drifter who relies on gig work to survive.  What exactly are most of these digital nomads? They do the jobs that do not require much social interaction with other humans. No need for social graces when the work assignment is emailed or made available on a dedicated website. No need to know how to speak or interact with people when all you do is address software issues or review documentation. These are the jobs best suited for people we used to call losers, guys who would wet themselves when they had to speak to a girl, people who had poor hygiene and who were not particularly attractive. Yes, there are exceptions, but that's what the majority of them are. They do not present a threat to anyone with social skills, even a 75 year old man.

I am weary of all the tales of successful day traders and bitcoin speculators and their vast wealth. If they are so wealthy why do they need to tell the world? Good for them and their mastery of the world. I am doing ok and that's all that matters innit?

He's in Pattaya - the class and behaviours of old sexpats there is very different - in many ways - to those in Phuket imho

Would also point out that 'social skills' are becoming largely irrelevant / obsolete to younger gens.

They never answer phones and aren't comfortable in environments that they can't wholly control (ie those outside their phones / computers)

Have you seen them out?

A lot of the time they're together physically but all lost in their own worlds (ie. their phones - the portal to what they consider to be their 'real' lives).

sad but true.

  • I gave it try, and a few fast forward, and he is just a time thief. Good luck

  • I don't hate young expats at all (I don't even think about them actually so what's to hate?), but I don't particularly fancy MORONS (of any age).

Was at a digital nomads meetup a few weeks back, about half of them were women. Nobody seemed to have any trouble socalising and interacting with other people.

A lot of digital nomad stuff is freelancing online. That can include content creation and stuff that boosts rankings of bigger companies. There are sights where big brands hire freelancers.

Examples would be, dropping links, writing articles, creating and growing youtube channels that have targeted ads, social media influencing, getting commission off leads from sales coming from your content, building websites that have a unique name but really just relay orders to a manufacturer for drop shipment, etc.

I tried it a long time ago. It's pretty much grunge tedious work that gets tiring and you're always fighting the newest algorithm that does not like manufactured content. It was also hard to stay motivated.

Unfortunately hatred seems to be an all too common emotion that many experience these days, but life is far too short to engage in it, and especially in regard to a large group of folks.

Were they really digital nomads or just part time gig workings drifting from one part time assignment to another?

The use of the term digital nomad is one of those recent terms that gets under my skin. It joins "deep dive",  "Disrupt",  "Lit" and "all hands on deck" work jargon that draws my ire. I can't stand seeing them in our work emails or hearing them on  calls. Same as seeing smarmy guys who think they are influencers with their cruddy monetized  youtube and instagram content.

Why care?

The world is as it is, and not as we would like it to be.

I don't care enough about anything to hate anyone.

My chest is puffed out  😁  and so i am emboldened to comment ...lol

Every "group"  that I have come across in my many years ( more than half spent here since the ice ages without technology ) ...... when a farang and a thai lady could sit comfortably in a restaurant ,  not being able to communicate ,  and without the life saving device of facebook to plunge their faces into .... ah those were the days ..S...

As i was saying... every group has a few nice folks that I like ,  and many more that i don't .   Prolly true that getting older has something to do with that ( even the sport and hollywood stars of the past don't look to be feeling so good) .  And of course all the energy which some had to live adventures when younger somehow fades away.  No exceptions that i have seen .   EXCEPT of course for the great stories and wisdom imparted anonymously on this forum by so many .

I have met a few .   Not so bad  🙂    But one just hates me  .   hahaha

Fair play and good for you.

FWIW, I believe the guy in the video is referring to a relatively small (nationally) but noticeable group of wretched old <deleted> who hang around in the likes of Soi Buakhao in Pattaya who hate on, and are openly hostile to, anyone they view as younger, smarter, better looking etc. encroaching on what they see as their territory.

If Taksin is smart he will do these human scumbags like he did drug dealers in his first term as PM.
